Andrew Wereschuk

Mr. Andrew Wereschuk of Langenburg Care Home, formerly of Calder, partner of Dora Unchulenko passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2015. He was eighty-seven years of age. Andrew was born on April 21, 1928 on the family farm in the Macnutt district of Saskatchewan. He was the second eldest of seven children born to Leo and Dora (nee Sauchuk) Wereschuk. After finishing school Andy went to Toronto looking for work. He found odd jobs, then later opened a T.V repair shop. Andy moved back and bought a home in Calder in the mid 80's. Andy was active in his community. He served as mayor of Calder for two terms. He was cantor for St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In 2008 Andy and Dora moved to Churchbridge into senior citizens housing until Andy moved to Langenburg Centennial Special Care Home due to his failing health. Andy leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Dora and her family, two sons, Bob (Carol) Unchulenko and John (Darlene) Unchulenko; one son-in-law Stan Doty and their families; two sisters, Louise Davey of Calgary, AB and Agnes (Peter) Kyluik of Hafford, SK and his brother David of Okotoks, AB; as well as all of his nieces, nephews and their families. Andy was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Dora; a step-daughter, Sheila Doty; two sisters, Helen (Leonard) Mucka and Pauline Gilchuk (Brian); brother, Donald; two nephews, Leonard Mucka and Leon Gilchuk and a niece, Barbara Gilchuk. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, May 4, 2015 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The responses were led by Gerald Yaholnitsky, assisted by members of the Parish Choir. Tributes were conveyed by Andy's sisters, Louise and Agnes. The cross bearer was Agnes Kyluik. The  interment took place at St. Nicholas Parish Cemetery, McNutt District with Peter Kyluik, Bob Unchulenko, David Wereschuk, Paul Wereschuk, Melvin Wereschuk and Nelson Danyluk serving as the casket bearers.
