In loving memory of Marion Jean (nee Patterson) Vaughan who passed away on January 11, 2015 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, Yorkton, SK. She was 90 years of age. Marion was born on the family farm, north of Yorkton, SK on August 1, 1924. She was the third child of Thomas and Betsy (nee Patterson) Patterson, was raised on the farm and received her education at Reaman School located on Highway #9, north of the airport. Marion worked at the Fort San tuberculosis hospital near Fort Qu'Appelle, SK in 1947. She met her future husband, J. Frank Vaughan, when he came to work for her brother, Tommy on the family farm and they were married on October 19, 1948. They were blessed with a son and three daughters. Frank and Marion purchased a farm in the Orkney district in 1955, however, they both supplemented the farm income with off-the-farm jobs. Most notable of her working career was her job at the Credit Union where she worked for 29 years, till her retirement in 1989. Marion was an avid CCF/NDP supporter. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, playing cards and she enjoyed horse riding until she was 70 years of age. Marion and Frank also enjoyed travel and throughout the years they visited, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, England, Ireland, China, Jamaica, Holland, Hawaii and Cuba. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Betsy; her husband, Frank; one daughter in infancy, Janice in 1957; her brother, Thomas and her sister, Isabel. She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter, Lorna (David) Bright; her son, Keith (Gail) Vaughan; her daughter, Fran (Daniel) Kirkham; her grandchildren, Angela (Trevor Crothers) Vaughan, Alia (Mitch Herman) Vaughan, Jordan (Meagan Taylor) Vaughan, Rob Kirkham, Lisa (Robert Peterson-Wakeman) Kirkham, Kathy Kirkham, Janice (Greg Robbins) Kirkham; her great-grandchildren, Sailah and Nixon Crothers, Katelyn, Skylar and Ethan Kirkham and Eilidh Wakeman as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK. The Cremation Committal will follow in the Yorkton City Cemetery, Yorkton, SK. Donations in Marion's name may be made to the Yorkton S.P.C.A. (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or the Orkney Historical Society as tokens of remembrance.
