Olga Varga, widow of the late Joseph Varga of Yorkton (and formerly of the Fenwood area), passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 93 years of age. Olga was born on Sept 24, 1920 to Steve and Katie (nee Borys) Stolar on the family farm near Phonehill. She attended Radimno School and the Yorkton Collegiate until she had to quit school at age sixteen to help her mother on the farm by looking after her brothers Mike and Cyril after their father passed away. When the younger children were old enough to help out on the farm, she ventured to Ontario to assist her brother Bill with his family. Upon returning to Saskatchewan, she had various jobs around Yorkton including clerking at Sereda's Store. Olga was united in marriage to Joseph Varga on June 30, 1946. They ran the Phonehill Store and Gas Bar as well as farmed. They sold the store and moved to the farm in 1953 as trying to run a business and farm proved to be too much. They faced many trials and tribulations over their farming years which they overcame. While on the farm, they raised three children, Sherrelle (1950) Roderick (1954) Lorne (1958). Joe and Olga moved to Yorkton in 1986 where she took up bowling and playing horseshoes. She thoroughly enjoyed her bowling years which continued until 2012 when she felt she could not bowl any more. Olga was fortunate to go to Moose Jaw for the Bowling Provincials in 2011- her 91st year. She also enjoyed attending garage sales, hunting for that special treasure with Marge and trying her luck at the casino with her friend Violet Hanson. Olga saw many changes in her lifetime and accepted and adapted to these changes. She was an avid reader and was always able to discuss the news of the day. She was the Memorial (Silver) Cross Sister at the Remembrance Day service numerous times and was always so honored to participate. Olga loved to cook - no one ever went home without having a meal or at least coffee and goodies. When the grandchildren came home, she always looked forward to a good game of cards or dice. She would make sure she had perogies and cabbage rolls on hand so she could send a care package home with them. Olga was a friend to many and was never too busy to help anyone that needed her help. She lived in her own home until May 2014 when she was hospitalized due to health issues. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, parents Steve and Katie Stolar, step-father Ucthyn Medwid; brothers William (Bernie), Howard, Emil, Cyril (Lorraine); sisters Mary (Colin), Stella (Bill), Katie (George), Adele; sister-in-law Marge Stolar and Joe's brothers Alec (Olga), Steve (Lillian), Paul, Ted and Ernie.
