It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Gena Tzupa (nee Yarycky). Gena passed away on August 25, 2016 at the age of 76 years. Gena was born on April 28, 1940, the daughter of Fred and Mary Yarycky (nee Wawrow) in the Stenen District of Saskatchewan. Gena grew up on the family farm and attended school at Goldbank. When she was just 15 years old, she went to work (and live) at the Sturgis Hotel as a cook and housekeeper. She then moved to Canora and worked at Billiards & Grill for three years. Gena met Mike Tzupa and the couple was married on August 11, 1961 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Buchanan, SK. They settled in Yorkton, SK and were blessed with three children, Perry, Terry and Corinne. Gena worked in many places including the Yorkton Union Hospital from 1966 until 2000. After working as a Night Supervisor, cook and baker, she finally retired after 34 years of service. In her 16 years of retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, going to the cabin, cooking, baking and gardening. She loved endlessly, laughed loudly and lived generously. Gena was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Mary Yarycky; her brothers, Lawrence (Linda) Yarycky, Mike (Mary) Yarycky and Tony (Jessie) Yarycky. Gena leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her husband, Mike; their sons, Perry (Arlene) Tzupa and Terry (Lois) Tzupa and their daughter, Corinne (Tyrone) Andrychuk; their five grandchildren, Arial, Breann, Kyla, Mercedes and Jesse; her brother, Eddy Yarycky; sisters, Lena Semler, Minnie Andrusiak, Rose Okrainetz and Shirley (Bob) Hanson as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends. Gena's family wish to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Regina General Hospital for all the compassion and care they shared with our family during this difficult time. The Prayer Service was held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Father Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R. officiating. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was sung on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton, SK with Father Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by members of the Yorkton Ukrainian Catholic Choir. The Cross Bearer was Arial Andrychuk. The Interment Service followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Jesse Tzupa, Breann Andrychuk, Mercedes Tzupa, Les Diakow, Kyla Tzupa and Wayne Fedorchuk serving as the casket bearers. The reception was held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Cultural Centre where Judy Diakow remembered Gena in tribute and eulogy. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting .
