Olga Tymiak

Olga Tymiak, beloved wife of the late Metro Tymiak of Yorkton, formerly of Canora and Tadmore, passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on February 16, 2015, at the age of 95 years. Olga was born on November 5, 1919 in the Tadmore district to Panko and Anna (Zarazun) Boyko, the fifth of seven children. The family lived near Stenen, then the Tiny district and finally settled west of Tadmore in 1930. Olga attended Badgerdale and Forest Hill Schools. Upon completing grade seven, she stayed  home to help with the chores, housework, garden and farm work. On October 28, 1939, Olga married Metro Tymiak from the Tadmore district at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canora. Initially, they lived with their parents, then in 1942, they moved to a farm two miles north of Tadmore where they farmed until 1972. They started with 23 cultivated acres, 2 milk cows and 20 chickens, and lived in a one room home, to which they later added on rooms. They purchased and cleared more land with 6-8 horses. With larger machinery and a tractor, Metro and Olga farmed 2 ½  quarters of land. Olga worked alongside Metro in all aspects of farming life. They loved the farm even though it was very difficult without modern conveniences. Olga always planted a huge garden; she loved to cook and bake. You couldn't leave Olga's home without having coffee, lunch or a meal. She loved to prepare and serve the Christmas and Easter meals and her greatest happiness was to have her family home for these celebrations. She loved to pick berries and mushrooms, canning, gardening, raising chickens, pigs, milk cows, hauling grain from the combine and working in the field with her Massey Harris tractor. Her favorite hobbies were sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilt making, as well as crafting. She was always willing to help her family and friends. Olga and Metro were blessed with two children: Glen and Sylvia. They sold their farm in 1972 and moved to Canora where they enjoyed the comforts of town life and were known to have a beautiful yard and garden. They enjoyed many happy hours socializing, caroling, playing cards, dancing and having coffee with neighbours. Olga and Metro were very active and attended many gatherings and special celebrations in the Boyko, Tymiak and Zarazun families. They loved to travel to various places in Canada and United States with their children. Olga practiced her faith deeply and quietly with profound devotion. She was deeply devoted to her faith and was an active member of her church in Tadmore, Canora and attended St. Mary's Church in Yorkton. She loved to assist at the various church and hall functions and looked forward to the perogy bees. Her last perogy making was on January 20, 2015 at St. Mary's in Yorkton. Olga was a dedicated member of the UCWLC in Canora since 1979. Metro and Olga had a happy, healthy and rewarding life. On October 28, 2006, they celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary. On February 7, 2007, Metro passed away. Olga continued to reside in her home in Canora until February 2010 when she moved to Fisher Court in Yorkton. There she enjoyed bingo, shuffle board, took part in the teas and dinners as well as enjoyed the company and new friendships. Thank you to the wonderful residents at Fisher Court for their friendship. Olga suffered a stroke on January 31, 2015 and passed away peacefully at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on February 16, 2015 at the age of 95. Olga instilled many terrific qualities, values and traditions that her family will forever be grateful. She was always interested and proud of the accomplishments of her family.
