Donald Wayne Thorvaldson. November 21, 1952- October 1, 2013. Donald (Donnie) Thorvaldson of Bredenbury, SK passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013 due to complications from diabetes. Donnie was 60 years of age. Donnie was born November 21, 1952, the second born son of Eddy and Belle Thorvaldson. Donnie loved the community of Bredenbury, where he grew up, attended school, bought his home and continued to reside until his passing. Donnie possessed a very strong work ethic and he was employed with the IMC Potash Mine in Esterhazy, SK for 31 years until his diabetes forced him into early retirement. A very independent man, Donnie always managed to take care of himself even though he has struggled with illness for many years. Donnie was loyal to his family, friends and his community. However, Donnie especially cherished three things in his life, his cat "Baby", his 1956 Chevy, and the Montreal Canadians. However, being with family and friends, telling a few stories and having a good laugh was always his favorite way to spend his time. Donnie shared a special bond many family members and friends, young and old, past and present and cherished each and everyone of those relationships. An avid sports fan, Donnie spent many happy hours cheering on his favorite teams the Montreal Canadians and the New York Yankees. Donnie had a special love for old cars, a trait passed down from his father and he loved nothing more than to take his Chevy for a Sunday drive. He also enjoyed his fishing trips or just going to the lake for the day. Donnie lived his life to the fullest, and unfortunately he was taken from this life far too soon. May he rest in peace. Donald was predeceased by his parents, Edwin "Eddy" and Margaret "Belle" Thorvaldson. He leaves to celebrate his life, his brothers, Greg of Toronto, ON, Blaine (Yvonne) of Red Deer, AB, Gary (Rhonda) of Saskatoon, SK, Garth (Connie Holland) of Swift Current, SK; his sister, Yvonne (Lorne) Murray of Sylvan Lake, AB; nieces and nephews, James (Wendy) and Joshua Thorvaldson of Kitchener, ON, Jared (Kandis), Heather, Kyle, Cassondra Thorvaldson of Saskatoon, SK and Tyler and Coltyn Thorvaldson of Red Deer, AB; great nieces and nephews, Kade and Ella Thorvaldson of Saskatoon, SK, and Ozzlynn Thorvaldson of Kitchener, ON; two close friends, Mike Hunter and Sandy McConnell, both of Bredenbury, SK as well as many extended family members, friends and neighbours. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, October 5, 2013 from the Bredenbury Community Hall in Bredenbury, Saskatchewan with Mr. Fred Nicholson officiating. The organist, Mr. Lorne Neal accompanied, soloist, Linda Cross who sang the hymns. Sandy McConnell shared words of tribute and eulogy in Donnie's memory. Following a luncheon reception, the cremation committal took place in the Saltcoats Town Cemetery with Jared Thorvaldson serving as the urn bearer.
