It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gordon Elwood Taylor announces his passing on Saturday December 29, 2012. at the age of 89 years. Gordon was born in Winnipeg MB on March 9, 1923 to parents Madeline (Bell), and Herbert Taylor. During WWII, Gordon spent 4 years at the Fleet Aircraft Factory in Fort Erie, ON, as he was unable to enlist in the services because of health problems. In the late 1940's, while working for the Department of Transport in Thunder Bay, ON (Fort William), Gordon met Florence Ponych, whom he would marry on February 11, 1950. Florence and Gordon raised 3 children, in Thunder Bay ON (Fort William): Louise (Saskatoon), Patrick (Saskatoon), and James (Rimbey AB);also two grandsons, Matthew (Saskatoon) and Corey (Yorkton SK) now predeceased. Gordon and family spent 4 years in Fort Churchill, MB, working as a heavy equipment operator. Gordon spent many years as a Scout Leader in Fort Churchill MB and Saskatoon, when his 2 boys were young. In 1968 Gordon and family moved to Saskatoon, still working for the Federal Government, then in 1973 Gordon was transferred once again, settling in Yorkton SK., here he retired as Manager of the Yorkton Airport. In Yorkton, Gordon was recruited into the Lion's Club, where he enjoyed his many years of volunteer work both in Yorkton and Saskatoon. Gordon loved camping at the family cottages at Good Spirit Lake and then at York Lake, just outside of Yorkton. In 1995 Florence and Gordon moved back to Saskatoon to enjoy their retired life. The family wishes to thank all the staff at St. Ann's Nursing Home where Gordon spent his last 4 months of life. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4 at the Chapel at St. Ann's, (2910 Louise Street) with Rev. Monsignor Raymond Senger presiding. Reception to follow at the Columbian Manor (2940 Louise Street). Internment will take place at St. John's Columbarium.
