Stanley Leslie Szumutku was born on May 8, 1934 to parents, Laddie and Annie (nee Poncsak) Szumutku in the Stockholm District of SK. Stanley was the second of five children, he had an older sister, Florence, a younger brother, Laddie, a younger sister who died in infancy and a younger sister, Elaine. Stanley passed away in the Morris House in the Yorkton and District Nursing Home on December 20, 2013 at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 12 days. He received his education at a country school called Excel. He was interested in farming at an early age but in the fall of 1957 he had a serious head injury which resulted in emergency surgery at the Regina General Hospital. On November 18, 1958 he was flown to Regina and was admitted to the isolation wing where he met a Certified Nursing Assistant originally from Biggar named Louise. As they say it was love from the beginning and on October 20, 1959 they were married in St. Mary's Church, Regina, SK by Father Kaufman. Stan and Louise were blessed with three children, Sandra, Mark and Crystal. In March of 1960, Stan and Louise moved to a farm in the Atwater district and began farming. In 1967, Stan's parents retired and moved to Kelowna, so he and Louise purchased his parents farm. Stan happily farmed the land, loving the life until his retirement in October of 1999 when he and Louise moved to Yorkton. In November of 2012, Stan suffered a stroke which put him into the hospital from November 16, 2012 to January 10, 2013 then temporarily on to the Langenburg Nursing Home and finally to Morris House in Yorkton on March 4, 2013 where he remained until his passing. Stan loved to go fishing but farming was always his true passion. He was an excellent welder and built many shop items. Friends and family always said, Stan was a jack of all trades and master of all as well. Stan was predeceased by his parents, one infant sister, uncles and aunts and one nephew. He is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Louise; his three children, Sandra, Mark and Crystal (Dale) ; granddaughters, Bailey and Casey. We will miss you Daddy and will always love you. Prayer Services were held on Friday, December 27, 2013 from the Chapel of Christie`s Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK. with Father Francis Hengen officiating. The Funeral Mass was held from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church in Stockholm, SK. with Father Rene Mangahas serving as the Celebrant. The Ushers were Jack Schwitzer and Jim Bali, the Readers were Jan Hawkshaw and Elaine Herperger, the Altar Servers were Ron Herperger and Jim Hawkshaw, the Cross Bearer was Susan Roussin and the Intercessions were led by Elaine Herperger. Words of tribute and eulogy were shared by Audrey Herperger. The organist, Gloria Jennett led the congregation and members of the St. Elizabeth Senior Choir in the singing of the hymns, "How Great Thou Art", "The Lord is My Shepherd", "Prayer of St. Francis", "Peace is Flowing", "Immaculate Mary" and "Amazing Grace". The Interment Service followed in the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church Parish Cemetery with Delvin Szumutku, Barry Griffith, Frank Herperger, Robert Griffith, Steve Bomberak and Wayne Schurko serving as the casket bearers.
