Mervin Joseph Smuk was born on April 2, 1952 in Yorkton SK. He was one of the second set of twins for Mary and Joseph Smuk and one of nine children. He was raised on the family farm and received his high school education at the Yorkton Regional High School. As a child, Merv loved nature and would spend hours studying wildlife and enjoying things like making sling shots, hiding money up in the trees or rafting to be by himself at times. As a young man Mervin worked on the farm and at the age of 15, he helped build the family home. In his late teens, he drove the school bus with his Dad. After he left home he went on to work in various areas of the construction field. He did everything from cement work to cabinet and furniture making. But woodworking was where his talents shone. In 1980 he married Linda Lutzko and had three beautiful daughters. They separated in time and he moved to Calgary where he worked and lived until his passing. Over the last year his health overall began to fail. After a short but hard battle of cancer Merv passed away peacefully on January 20, 2016 with his three daughters (Rachelle, Danielle, Marie), Darlene and Ted by his side. Mervin is predeceased by his father Joe in 1997, his mother Mary in 2001, great-nephew Alexander Dmyterko in 1995 and nephew Owen Lutzko in 2014. He leaves to mourn his passing his three daughters and six grandchildren; Rachelle & Ryan Rydzik (Kaitlyn and Morgan) of Regina,Danielle and Brad Mcleod (Saydee and Weston) of Regina, Marie and Michael Hankewich (Barrett and Jase) of Wynyard.
