Geoffrey Ernest Smith was born in Erith, Kent, England, on June 16, 1922, the younger of two boys, born to Henry and Ada (nee Oliver) Smith. From 1939 to 1945, Geoffrey served as a pilot in the Royal Air Force, taking his flight training in Regina and Yorkton, Sk. In 1947, he emigrated to Yorkton, where he was employed by York Auto Supply for 33 years. In December of 1949, he married Ruth Beck. Geoffrey was involved with his community as the chairman of the Yorkton Public Library Board, the Parkland Regional Library Board and the Yorkton Lake Regional Park Board for many years. He enjoyed mountain climbing, whitewater rafting, wind surfing, sailing and skiing. He also travelled extensively in Canada and abroad. Following a stroke in 2009, Geoffrey moved to the Bentley Retirement Community, where he resided until his sudden death on March 4, 2013. Predeceased by his parents; his brother, Harold; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Stan Garrett and sister-in-law, Norma Hawkins; Geoffrey is survived by his wife, Ruth; his brother-in-law, David Hawkins; his nephew, John Smith and numerous relatives in England. At his request cremation has taken place and a private family cremation committal will take place at a later date.
