Lola "Marie" Sletten

Lola "Marie" Sletten was born on February 18, 1928 in Moose Jaw, SK. As an infant, she was adopted by Jack and Amanda Dyer from Bulyea, SK. She spent many happy years growing up in Bulyea with her adopted brother, Auldrich. In 1945, Marie moved to Regina, SK and met the love of her life, George Sletten. Marie and George loved to dance and spent many Fridays and Saturdays dancing the night away at the Trianon Ballroom. Marie and George were married on April 22, 1946 at the Anglican Church in Bulyea. For the first few years of their married life they lived in Bulyea while George was on the road as a salesman. During this time, their first daughter, Loretta was born and son, James a few years later. In 1950 the couple and their two children moved to Regina and later that year a son, David was born. Four years later their youngest daughter, Sonja, arrived. During their time in Regina they spent many happy summers at their cabin at Saskatchewan Beach. In the fall of 1961 the family built a new house in Yorkton where George had purchased Shepherd Adamson Agencies. The move to Yorkton made Marie very happy as George would finally be off the road and spend more time at home. Marie loved her home on Bailey Drive, spending lots of time in her garden and had many happy times with her wonderful neighbours. Marie was an active member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for many years, serving terms on the executive including a few as President. Marie was also a faithful bowler in the Ladies' Afternoon League as well as the Evening Mixed League. One of Marie's favourite things was the many cruises she and George took, they made many wonderful life long friends on the cruises. Due to failing health Marie moved to the Lakeside Manor Care Home in Saltcoats, SK in August of 2009. The staff at the Care Home took wonderful care of her for the last years of her life and she appreciated them all greatly.
