Mr. Carl Skotnicky of Saskatoon, beloved husband of Paulette Skotnicky passed away on February 9, 2014. He was 84 years of age. Carl was born on October 12, 1929 on the family farm northeast of Stornoway, SK; son of Walter Skotnicky and Katherine nee Solonyka. He attended the Stornoway School and later took upgrading to complete his grade 12. After school he worked on the family farm after the passing of his father in 1943. Awhile later he went to Toronto for a short period of time working at various jobs; including a variety of interesting jobs like taxi driver. More notably he worked for 9 years in Toronto and later transferred back to Saskatchewan. Carl was united in marriage to Paulette Jemieff in 1956 in the Roman Catholic Church. They moved to Saskatoon in 1959 where Carl's main career was in the passage elevator industry, 16 years in the trade and later he spent 25 years as an inspector with the province. This career provided numerous interesting stories. Carl is a 'jack of all trades', not easily defined with one simple word. He enjoyed and excelled at carpentry, mechanical work, plumbing and his artistic talent to name a few hobbies. He is never intimidated by a challenge. Naturally gifted and talented in the area of carpentry, electrical plumbing and motor mechanics no job was too much of a challenge. Without official training his work held a level of excellence and professionalism second to none. Carl never thought twice to help out family on the farm, assisting with the harvest, working on machinery, or being at the beck and call of his mother and sisters. His friends in Saskatoon and at the lake were well aware of his talent and never hesitated to give a shout "Carl can you take a look at..". Inevitably he would take a look and creatively and economically fixed many a problem. He loved gardening and took great pride in the flowers he grew. Besides his wife Paulette, Carl is survived by 3 sisters, Emily Strutynsky, Mary Minchuk and Nettie (Fred) Jemieff; sister-in-law Mildred Goddard; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Carl was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Kay; father and mother-in-law Cecil and Kate Jemieff (Storgeoff); brother Anton Skotnitsky; brothers- in- law Walter Strutynsky, William Minchuk and Paul Goddard; sister-in-law Janet Skotnitsky and nephew Ken Strutynski. A Memorial Service was held on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Father Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church officiating.
