Stan Lawrence Skaluba passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, Yorkton, SK. He was 85 years of age. Stan was born on August 16, 1928, the ninth child of Martin and Anna (nee Chrunik) Skaluba in Yorkton. He was raised in Yorkton and received his education at Sacred Heart Institute and St. Joseph's College. In his youth, Stan enjoyed playing hockey and baseball. On June 11, 1957, Stan was united in marriage to Grace Spilak at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton. This marriage was blessed with two children, Leo and Marie. Stan worked as a steam engineer at the Dairy Producers Co-op for 46 years, retiring at the age of 65 years. Stan was a hard worker, who could fix almost anything. He was an excellent carpenter, helping friends build their houses, as well as building furniture, cupboards and bird houses. He loved working with metal and believed that anything could be reinforced with steel. Many happy days were spent at his cabin at Parr Hill Lake, where he always had several projects on the go. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing and gardening. Stan was predeceased by his wife, Grace (2000); his parents, Martin (1954) and Anna (1970); brothers, Reverend Father Frank, C.Ss.R. (1984), Joe (1997) and his wife, Eileen (2012), Thomas (1997) and John (2007); his sisters, Monica Skaluba (1987), Veronica Christensen (1997) and her husband, Howard (2002) and Sister Benigna, SSMI (2002). He leaves to mourn his passing, his son, Leo of Yorkton; his daughter, Marie (Brian) Kruger of Yorkton; his granddaughters, Sara, Emily and Allison Kruger; his brother, Victor of Didsbury, AB; his sister-in-law, Ruby Skaluba of Victoria, BC as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends. The Prayer Vigil Service was held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church with Father Francis Hengen officiating. The pianist, Diana Hornung, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace", "Psalm 23" and "Christ Be Our Light". The reader was Debbie Hayward. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, April 4, 2014 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church with Father Francis Hengen officiating. The pianist, Pamela Yaremko led the congregation and members of the church choir in the singing of the hymns, "Be Not Afraid", "Psalm 23", "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", "I am the Bread of Life", "Song of the Angels" and "Holy God, We Praise Thy Name". The Cross Bearer was Allison Kruger, the readers were Lori Keller and Brian Kruger and the gift bearers were Allison Kruger and Sara Kruger. The Interment Service followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Don Kluk, Doug Ruf, Kerry Perepeluk, Leo Skaluba, Glen Spilak and Richard Zulyniak serving as the casket bearers.
