It is with sadness that the family of John Shewkenek announces his passing on May 23, 2015 at the age of 92 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. John was born on the family farm near Rhein, SK on June 28, 1922. At the age of two his family relocated to a farm near Kamsack. He attended school in Kamsack and helped on the family farm while growing up. He began farming on his own in 1943. In June 9, 1949 he married Fern Elliott of Winnipeg, MB. They were blessed with two sons. They retired from farming in 1984 and moved to Saskatoon. In 1937 they returned to the Yorkton area. John enjoyed spending time with his family and was always available for advice or to lend a helping hand. He was an avid traveller and in his later years spent his summers at Madge Lake. John will be sadly missed by his loving wife Fern and sons Baillie (Beth) of Saskatoon and Rene (Nancy) of Yorkton, two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. John is survived by three sisters, Ann Salahub of Swan River, MB, Margaret (Dr. Bill) Ariko of Toronto, ON and Pearl Berner of Vancouver, BC, as well as many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents George and Martha Shewkenek of Kamsack, brothers William Shewkenek of Penhold, AB and Mike Shewkenek of Kamsack and sisters Nora Hudzinski of Roblin, MB and Mary Romanuik of Prince George, BC. At John's request a private family service will be held at Yorkton Memorial Gardens.
