Sophie Sernowski joined her loving and doting husband, William (Bill) Sernowski in heaven on December 4, 2012 at the Lakeside Manor Care Home with her son, Don holding her hand. Sophie (Zofja) was born in Trybuchoidce, Ukraine to Jozef and Carolina Shevernoha on April 4, 1926. Jozef immigrated to Canada on May 1, 1926. Sophie and her mother, Carolina followed on January 22, 1930. They settled on a farm near Whitebeech, SK. Sophie worked at the family farm and attended Border Road School. She worked at various jobs and then landed a position at the Eaton's mail order division in Winnipeg, MB. Intelligent, self-disciplined and efficient, she became a valuable employee. The slim, fun loving blue eyed beauty caught the eye of Bill Sernowski. They were married on November 7, 1950. They settled in Canora in 1952. Sophie worked in the kitchen at the hospital while Bill worked as a mechanic. Their son, Donald, was born on June 21, 1957. In 1962, they bought Gateway Service, a service station in Canora and operated it until retirement in 1978. They bought a house just west of Yorkton and promptly began turning the property into a park. A perfectionist and her own worst critic, Sophie excelled in everything she did - accounting, sewing, cooking, baking, canning, gardening, landscaping, home reno, arts and crafts. She was a good wife and mother. Sophie was predeceased by her husband, Bill, her parents, Jozef and Carolina (nee Iwachewski) and brother, Vladimir. Sophie is survived by her son, Don; her sister, Geraldine (Wenarchuk); her brother, Walter and many nieces and nephews. The family wish to express their deepest appreciation for the warmth and compassion of the staff of the Lakeside Manor Care Home in Saltcoats, SK and the staff of the Lion's Day Wellness Center. In accordance with Sophie's wishes a private family cremation committal will take place at a later date. Friends so wishing may make donations in Sophie's memory to the charity of their choice. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
