Phyllis was born on her grandfather's homestead on July 16, 1931. She was loving and gentle and hard working too - often helping out at harvest time. She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing bingo with friends and attending hockey and ball games whenever she could. In her later years she enjoyed watching the Blue Jays on television, as well as hockey and curling. She also loved dancing and listening to old-time music. When she and Johnny weren't busy farming they liked to spend time traveling, going on camping and fishing trips and having parties at the farm. All of her family and friends have at least one fond memory of a wiener roast at the Schuster Farm, in celebration of her summer birthday. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by many. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the excellent care received at the Centennial Special Care Home in Esterhazy and especially the Lakeside Manor Care Home in Saltcoats where she and Johnny were able to make special friends. Funeral Services were held on Monday, February 29, 2016 from the Saltcoats United Church in Saltcoats, SK with Walter Farquharson presiding. Words of tribute and eulogy were shared by Phyllis' granddaughter, Christine Sommerfeldt. The organist, Ruth Datema and members of the Saltcoats United Church Choir (and Friends) led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "For the Fruit of All Creation" and "Would You Bless Our Homes and Families". The soloist, Linda Datema sang "Amazing Grace". The choir selection was "The Church in the Wildwood" and the choir recessional was "Beyond the Sunset". Following a reception in the Heritage Room at the Saltcoats Community Hall, the Interment Service took place in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Garden of St. Mark, with Sheldon Sommerfeldt, Kelly Schuster, Murray Schuster, Craig Hershmiller, Dennis Watrych and Matthew Williams serving as casket bearers.
