Ernest Schurko husband of Jennie Schurko passed away in his sleep at his home in the Theodore district on Saturday, July 26, 2014, after a six year battle with cancer. Ernest was born on May 21, 1932 in the Jedburgh district of Saskatchewan to Alex and Katie (nee Petlock) Schurko. Ernest was raised in the Jedburgh district and attended Folkstone School. He lived on the farm and helped his family with farm work. He married Jennie Karapita on October 14, 1956, Jennie also lived in the same district and attended the same school. His parents gave him one quarter of land and while making payments on another quarter of land nearby he started farming. Ernest & Jennie started out just small farmers and they stayed just small farmers for the next 57 years. To help keep the farm afloat Ernest also worked at Leon's Manufacturing Company for some twenty plus years, first as a welder than as a foreman. Daughter, Roz and son, Ron joined the family early in the marriage. Today we also have 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Ernest leaves behind his wife Jennie, daughter Roz (Steve) Wort and their two children; daughter, Krista (Andrew) Richardson and their son, Cooper; and son, Steve Jr. and fiancé Katy; son, Ron (Georgie) and their four children, daughter Farrah (Kevin) Kit and their three children, Felicia, Casey and Madison; sons, Colton, Adam and Leeland; one brother, Frank; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. An evening Funeral Service was held Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey B.Th, Certified Celebrant officiating. Tributes and words of remembrance were given by daughter Roz and daughter-in-law Georgie. A Family Funeral Service followed on Thursday, August 7, 2014 with interment in the Garden of St. Luke at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Colton, Adam Schurko and Leeland Schurko, Steve Wort, Andrew Richardson and Kevin Kit serving as the casketbearers.
