Margaret Christine Schrader passed away on May 15, 2013 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina at the age of 81 years. She was born on January 25, 1932 at the family farm in the Beresena District, around the MacNutt/Calder area. In 1936 Margaret lived in Togo with her parents, where her father operated the poolroom and barbershop. In 1938, the Schrader family moved and settled in Yorkton. Marg attended both Burke School and Simpson School and graduated from the Yorkton Collegiate Institute. She often spoke of the great time she had with her family growing up. After graduating, in 1950 Marg was employed by Saskatchewan Government Telephones and made it her career. While working in Wolseley, she also played piano in a band. After Wolseley, she worked in Kamsack as a telephone operator where she met many lifelong friends. She often told stories about the great parties, lots of people having fun and laughs with very little money. In 1954, Marg moved to Vancouver, BC where she was blessed by the birth of her son, Richard. They traveled back to Yorkton by train and went to live with her parents, Gerhard and Christine Schrader, on First Avenue North. Money was scarce and times were tough but a family sticks together and survives. In 1969, Marg and her sister, Geraldine ran the Telephone Answering Service in Yorkton. They answered calls for ambulance, hydro, veterinary and other businesses when away from their "land line telephones". In 1970, Marg had the opportunity to move to Saskatoon to further her career. Her management position was providing switchboard sales and instructions to the businesses and government institutions. She loved Saskatoon, where she worked and spent time with her lifelong friend and best buddy, Dennie Paulson. They had a hoot together, always having an "Action Plan" up their sleeve. In 1986, a poor heart and bypass surgery forced Marg to retire from SaskTel. With the passing of her mother and her father's failing health, she decided to move back to Yorkton. While back in Yorkton, Marg was very pleased to have the opportunity to watch her two grandchildren grow. Amanda and Adam were close to her heart, sharing precious moments with them as Grandma's do. Marg was an active member of the Army & Navy Ladies Auxilliary and the SaskTel Pioneers. She was also a member of the York Lake Regional Park where she was a director on the board until 1996. In 2006, Marg moved to Erickson Place. It was the perfect setting for her, with friends to talk to, heated parking and an elevator, no snow to clear and door to door pick up to the Casino with the girls. Life didn't get any better! Marg had a love of music, playing piano by ear. She got her gift from her dad, Gerhardt, who in his youth, played guitar (or whatever instrument was available) in a band. She was always a hit when an organ or piano was around. She would sing old tunes that everyone could sing. In addition to music, Marg had a great passion for curling, which continued long after she was unable to do so herself. Nothing would make her happier than to discuss the previous day's game that she watched at 2:00 in the morning. She would then scold the cable company if they didn't televise the game she wanted to watch. Marg enjoyed going to the Co-op and having a chat with old friends while picking up her groceries and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. A faithful Christian, Marg loved going to church to listen to Pastor Dan's sermon. Larry and Gwen Haas could always be counted on to help her get there. Marg is predeceased by her parents, Gerhardt (1989) and Christina (1979) Schrader; one brother, Edgar Schrader (1949); sisters, Eileen (Tom) Hygard (1948), Myrna (Fred) Haas (1973), Elruth (Frank) DeWindt (1980), Lorna (Arnold) Kinzel (1992), Florence (Jack) Fedyck (2008) and infant Marion Schrader (1943). Marg is survived by her only son, Rick (Marlene) Schrader of Yorkton, SK; grandchildren, Amanda Schrader of San Diego, CA, Adam Schrader of Saskatoon, SK, Mackenzie Shyngera of Regina, SK and Beau Stephens of Edmonton, AB; her sisters, Geraldine (Allan) Herzke of Delta, BC and Sherrin (Dick) Brunner of St. Albert, AB; her brother, Grant (Noelle) Schrader of Yorkton, SK; and by her nephew, Larry (Gwen) Haas of Yorkton, SK and by many other nieces, nephews and friends. A graveside service will be held later in the summer in the Yorkton City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kopan's Funeral Service, Yorkton.
