Elsie Frieda Schappert (nee Schmidt). Peacefully on July 22, 2015 at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, MB, Elsie passed away at the age of 89 years. She will be dearly missed by her children, Barbara (Donald) Radley, Douglas (Ruth) Schappert, Karen (Darcy) Kada; grandchildren Jennifer (James), Michael, Brennen (Amanda), Amanda (Kyle), Anna, Lisa, Amy, Chris (Leah), Tyler; great-grandchildren Lochlann, Rowan and Taylor; and sister-in-law Sina Schmidt. Elsie was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Schappert and her siblings Olga, Reinhold, Adolf, Daneda and Art. Elsie was born and raised in Yorkton, SK. She married Bill Schappert in 1957. They moved to Thompson, MB in 1964 where they lived, worked and raised their family. After retirement in 1980, Elsie and Bill returned to Yorkton, SK. In 2003 they moved to Winnipeg. Elsie was an active member of the Lutheran Church. She loved reading, baking and spending time with her family. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK. The Cremation Committal will follow in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Yorkton, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elsie's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg MB, R3E 0B9.
