Victoria (Vicky) Sarkany

It is with much sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Victoria (Vicky) Sarkany announce the passing of their mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother on Monday, July 13, 2015 at the Regina General Hospital, Regina, Sk.  She was 77 years old. Vicky was born on February 10, 1938 in the Hamton district and lived on the family farm until her parents retired in 1970 and moved to Yorkton. In 2000, Vicky was involved in a pedestrian car accident which she miraculously survived and then became a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home for 15 years where the staff lovingly cared for her until her passing. Vicky was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Tillie Elchuk; brothers, Frank and Metro and sister-in-law, Lena Elchuk. She leaves to cherish her memory, her sister, Marie Kushnir (Brandon, MB); her daughters, Janey Elchuk (Vancouver, BC) and Gail Sarkany (Beaumont, AB); her granddaughter, Selina (Brian) McAvany (Edmonton, AB); great-grandson, Ryley Elchuk (Edmonton, AB); nephew, Barry Elchuk (Hamton, SK) and cousin, Toni (Gerry) Grominsky (Yorkton, SK.) We will forever remember the joy and laughter that you brought into our lives. Rest in peace, dear Vicky. A Special Thank You to the Staff at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre and the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, 2nd North for their loving care of Vicky throughout the years. Funeral Services were held on Friday, July 17, 2015 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, SK with Reverend Kendall Buhler officiating.  A special taped music selection of "How Great Thou Art" as sung by Paul Brandt was played. The service ended with the congregation singing "You Are My Sunshine" - a favorite of Vicky's that was often sung during the social time at the nursing home. The Interment Service followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Barry Elchuk, Tim Meszaros, Gerry Gromnitsky, Frank Tomick and Brian McAvany serving as the casket bearers. The honourary pallbearer was Vicky's great-grandson, Ryley Elchuk. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
