Olga Sapara (nee Ashley) passed away peacefully at Yorkton and District Nursing Home on Tuesday, March 12. She was two days shy of her 99th birthday. The eldest of six children born to Bert and Esther Ashley, she was raised in Waldron. After finishing school, she helped her father in the general store. In 1938, she married Martin Sapara, settling in Yorkton in 1947. Throughout her life, she was always the good neighbour, ready to help whenever and wherever necessary with kindness, patience and unfailing good humour. These characteristics served her well as a Brownie commissioner. She was also a member of the Lion L's and a long time member of the Eastern Star. As a devoted member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, she enjoyed her long term as a choir member. In later years, Olga and Martin were able to spend several winters in Phoenix. Back at home, Olga enjoyed dancing and bowling in the much loved company of family and friends. Learning to drive at age 75, after Martin died, was an example of her determined (some might say stubborn) character. Olga was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Martin; sisters Vivian, Dorothy, Lynne and Gwen and brother Jack. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Gail of Yorkton and Glenna (Michael) Sweeney of Centreville, Nova Scotia; granddaughter Leigh (Shawn) Stimson; great granddaughter Sarah and beloved nieces and nephews with whom she was involved for so much of her life. Funeral Services were held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church with Archdeacon Kim Salo, Rev. Ken Buchan and Rev. Luanne Hrywkiw officiating. The organist, Judy Berg led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Morning Has Broken", "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee" and "Day Is Done". The honourary pallbearers were all those who shared in Olga's life. The interment service took place at the Yorkton City Cemetery with Kim Sapara, Rod Ashley and Greg Fraipont serving as casketbearers. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
