Surrounded by family, Denis Gordon Putland passed away on June 16, 2015, at the age of 75 years. He has joyfully reunited with his sweetheart, Diann, who predeceased him 4 months earlier. Denis was born on December 27, 1939 near Churchbridge, SK to parents Edward and Vera (nee: Fraser) Putland. He attended Liscard School south of Churchbridge, until leaving to continue his education by working on the family farm. He was baptized on June 21, 1959 and confirmed on May 2, 1965 into the Lutheran Church. Denis married Diann (Rosalie) Kitsch on July 24, 1964. After their marriage, they lived for 50 years on the family farm south of Churchbridge where they raised their daughter Roslyn Bourak and their son Ross Putland. Growing grain and raising hogs kept Denis busy, but not so much that he couldn't find time for his many other interests: visiting with family, going for drives, playing cards, woodworking, chess, camping, curling, fishing, bowling, golfing, gardening, surfing the internet, getting into trouble, taking risks, goofing around, teasing and joking. Out of necessity or enjoyment, Denis was always modifying equipment and tools, welder and vice close at hand, along with the necessary first aid equipment. He was never without a bandage or blackened nail or healing wound of some kind. Denis loved the garden, eating fresh peas as soon as they were ready, picking strawberries and raspberries to eat with cream and waiting impatiently for that first tomato. He could often be found in the kitchen whipping up a snack, egg nog, cream puffs, orange floats, chocolate icing, fried bologna, burnt toast, making a mess perfecting a caramel popcorn recipe. Most of all, Denis loved his family and friends deeply and was especially happy spending time with them. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Roslyn and John Bourak; grandson Jordan Bourak; son Ross and Tammy Putland; sister Jean and John Baptist; sister Lorna Phillips; brother Bill and Vel Putland; sister Leila Shiels; brother Leslie and Jean Putland; Diann's family; many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Vera Putland, his sister, Mary Yanke and his brother-in-law, Gordon Yanke. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 from Trinity Lutheran Church in Churchbridge, SK with Pastor Jeff Dul officiating. The organist, Alice Johnson, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus", "Nearer, My God to Thee" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Post Service music was provided by Free Spirit. Following a reception in the Trinity Lutheran Church Parish Hall, the Cremation Committal took place in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Garden of St. Matthew with Wade Putland serving as the urn bearer. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
