Mrs. Eva "June" Porter, widow of the late Lorne Porter, of Saltcoats, SK passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 8, 2015. She was 87 years of age. June was born on August 11, 1927, the daughter of Eva (nee Martin) and Harvey Howie in Gerald, SK. She was united in marriage on December 15, 1945 to Lorne Porter in Yorkton, SK and the couple made their home in the Saltcoats district. In 1959, they moved to Snow Lake, MB where Lorne was employed with the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company. They returned to Saltcoats in 1973, where June remained until her passing. June was an avid gardener, who also enjoyed sewing and spending time with family and friends. June will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. June was predeceased by her husband, Lorne; her children, Gloria, John and Jim; her granddaughter, Kim Tarasoff; her parents, Eva and Harvey Howie; her parents-in-law, Bessie and Charles Porter; her brothers, Ray, Mel, Carl and James Howie; her sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Bill Ritchie; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Herb Hanson and special friend, Duke Barker. She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life, her children, Stan Porter, Diane (Bob) Lavallee, Harvey (Paulette Larocque) Porter, Carolyn Porter, Lorna (Jim) Ward; nineteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. June is also survived by her sister, Isabel (Fred) Lintott; her brother, Dennis (Norma) Howie; sisters-in-law, Marie Howie and Elsie Howie as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from Saltcoats United Church in Saltcoats, SK with Funeral Celebrant, Mr. Fred Nicholson officiating. The organist, Ruth Datema and the Saltcoats United Church Choir and Friends led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross". The urn bearer was June's son, Stan Porter and a private family cremation committal will take place in the Bredenbury Town Cemetery at a later date.
