Theresa Pfeifer, better known as Rose, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015 at the Yorkton & district Nursing Home at the age of 99. Rose was born on the family farm in the Rhein area on August 18, 1915; a daughter of Henry and Katherine (nee Leis) Schaefer. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein. Rose received her elementary education at schools in Rhein and Carclew (near Runnymede). At the age of 15 she began working for a relative in the Runnymede area. It was here that she met and then at age 19, married the love of her life, Andrew (Jack) Pfeifer on October 14, 1934. Rose and Jack farmed for 22 years near Runnymede before Jack became an elevator agent, buying grain for the Sask Wheat Pool in Runnymede and later at Rosthern. While in Rosthern, Rose worked at the hospital before both her and Jack retired and eventually moved to Yorkton in 1978. Before moving into the Yorkton Nursing Home in 2007, Rose resided both in her and Jack's Betts Ave. home and then in Victoria Court, where they celebrated 66 years of marriage before Jack passed away in 2000. While dedicated to every member of her family and to her long list of relatives, all whom she loved dearly, Rose was a devout Christian with a strong faith which she was not afraid to share with others. Her concern for others, included her church and community, will not be forgotten. Besides her husband Jack, Rose was predeceased by her father Henry Schaefer, step-father George Mehling, her mother Katherine Mehling (nee Leis); son Alex, daughter-in-law Peggy; grandson Jack; four sisters: Maria, Amalia, Martha Leis and Lydia Riffel; five brothers: Henry, David, Jack, John and Alex; half-brothers: Victor Mehling & George Schaefer; step-brother: Jacob Mehling and her two step-sisters: Elizabeth Ruff and Emile Engel.
