Peter Pelepchuk was born on July 14, 1926 to Dora (nee Rawluik) and John Pelepchuk in the Sheho/Insinger district of Saskatchewan. As a young man Peter worked in lumber camps in Northern Saskatchewan in the winter months. He was employed as a farm labourer during the summer months. In 1949 he obtained farmland in the Bredenbury district of Saskatchewan. As years progressed Peter spent winters as a hotel maintenance man in Creston, B.C. and would return early in the spring to resume farming operations. He lived a solitary life taking pleasure in watching the crops grow. Peter also grew bountiful gardens. He took pride in his buildings and his yard. Being highly aware of environmental issues, Peter converted his land to hay production that required no sprays or chemicals. He continued living on the homestead until 2012 when illness forced him to relocate to the Centennial Care Home in Langenburg. Peter passed away on July 29, 2013 at the age of 87 years. Peter was predeceased by his parents as well as his four sisters, Lena (also known as Shirley), Anne, Rose and Marie. He is survived by his nieces, nephews, other relatives as well as many friends and neighbours. A Celebration of Peter's Life was held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Kathy Novak serving as the Funeral Celebrant. A special taped music selection of Paul Brandt singing, "Just As I Am" was played as a time to reflect on the ways that each person in the congregation loved Peter - just as he was.
