Carye Rebecca Osmack was born on March 22, 1938 in Hattiesburg, MS, the daughter of James and Lucile Albritton. She attended "Ole Miss" (University of Mississippi) in Hattiesburg and finished her degree at Old Dominion University in Portsmouth, VI. She had a life-long love for the arts which began in these years with painting and pottery. Carye met Bob Osmack in 1976. A number of visits put together a relationship that lasted over 35 years. A move with Bob's work in military service, sent the family to the West Coast to live in Chilliwack, BC. When Bob retired from the service, he began to work in the prison system and Carye found work at the hospital in the finance department. As the years went by, Carye added more types of mediums to her list of artistic talents to include weaving, basketry, bead work and tole painting. She also had a keen interest in making porcelain dolls and completed an instructor's course in doll making and the making of doll clothes. She made many lasting friendships up and down the west coast with her connections to basket making. With the move to Yorkton, Carye expanded her interests in the arts to include quilting. She belonged to the local group - "The York Colony Quilter's Guild" as well as the "Pine Belt Quilters" out of Hattiesburg. Her last projects included the painting of a butterfly house and an Icelandic hobby horse. She also completed a baby quilt on her own and two others, with a bit of help from other quilt club members. One of which was a very special gift for the son of friend who had passed away from cancer. Carye was very glad that these projects were completed in the three months prior to her passing. Carye was always willing to help friends with their tasks and projects as well as volunteering much of her time at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Yorkton, SK. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Carye was predeceased by
parents, James and Lucile (nee Sullivan) Albritton. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her husband, Bob; her sons, John (Nancy) and Kevin (Yeal); her sister, Jimmy VanAlpin; her step-children, Tanya, Dawn (Don), Christina and Dean as well as twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and five nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Ken Buchan officiating. Special taped music selections, "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" as sung by Roger Whittaker and "Thank You" as sung by Ray Boltz were shared with the congregation. Carye's son, John Buford, shared words of tribute and memory.
