It is with deep sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Nestor Joseph Ortynsky at his home on July 6th, 2013 at the age of 92 years. Nestor was born on December 19, 1920 to Joseph and Mary (Chocholik) Ortynsky in Veregin, SK. Nestor attended various country schools, high school at Yorkton Collegiate, and undergraduate studies at the University of Manitoba and University of Saskatchewan. Nestor and his brother Peter established Canora Central Motors in 1947. On July 16, 1952 Nestor was united in marriage to Jennie Lys at the Heritage Church in Canora. They had two sons, Evan in 1953 and Taras (Terry) in 1955. Their union was marked by a loving devotion for 61 years. Throughout his life Nestor Ortynsky was an exemplary role model for his family, friends, church, community and industry. Nestor had been actively involved in many community organizations including the Canora Fire Brigade, Red Cross, Kiwanis Club, and Masonic Order, Canora Agricultural Society and Chamber of Commerce. Nestor maintained strong family values. He planned and prepared meals for relatives every week. He also took great pleasure in his home and garden and cottage. Returning to the dealership in Canora on a daily basis to stay in touch with his customers was a source of enjoyment. He continued to keep up-to-date with the latest automotive news and trends. Conversations with his sons would inevitably lead to what was happening in their businesses and the automotive industry. Nestor held several positions on local, provincial and national boards including the Saskatchewan Motor Club, Massey Ferguson Dealer's Council, General Motors Dealer's Council and General Motors President's Council. In 2005, Nestor was honoured by General Motors for his 50 years of dedication as an automobile dealer. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church had always been pivotal in Nestor's life. He assumed various executive positions, beginning with CYMK and continuing with the Ukrainian Self-Reliance League of Canada and the Order of St. Andrew. Nestor served to preserve and promote Ukrainian culture and traditions and provided a supportive role in Ukrainian community projects and numerous organizations. He was very, very proud to call Saskatchewan, and especially Canora area, home. Nestor was predeceased by his parents; brothers Paul and Peter; sisters Stephania and Zoria; brothers-in-law Walter, Andrew, Walter and Nestor; sister-in-law Doreen; nephews Roman, Ivan and David; and niece Dianne. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jennie; son Evan (Brenda) and their children Joseph, Nathan and Mikaila; and son Terry (Linda) and their daughters Stephanie, Vanessa and Natalie; sisters Nellie Pawlik and Bernice Mysak; and sisters-in-law Cornelia Schieve and Lillian Ortynsky; and many relatives and friends. The Prayer Service was held on Tuesday, July 9th, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 10th, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. both held from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity with Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna officiating. Interment followed at the Canora Cemetery. Pallbearers were Nestor's six grandchildren.
