It is with great sadness the family of Bruce Monka of Yorkton, beloved husband of Joan Monka, announce his passing after a courageous battle with cancer on July 31, 2014 at the age of 81 and 7 months. Bruce Jack Monka was born December 10, 1932 to Michael and Stella (Broda) Monka at McKim. Bruce worked many jobs: Black Woods Beverages and Pepsi Cola in Yorkton. In 1955 he moved to the Weyburn area and worked for farmers in Radville and Brooking where he met Joan Marie Howard. They were married June 12, 1956 in Minton, SK. They moved back to Yorkton for one year, then back to Minton and he worked at Sybouts Sodium Sulphate owned by Seiher Family in New York. He worked there from 1960 - 1978. The plant was purchased by the Saskatchewan Government and later closed. So they moved back to Yorkton in 1978. He was employed at Leon's Manufacturing from 1979 - 1990 and retired in 1991 due to health reasons. He enjoyed retirement by fishing, doing carpentry, gardening and walking their dog, Sammy. He cheered for the Blue Jays and Riders. Bruce is survived by his wife Joan of 58 years of marriage; sons, Terry of Yorkton and his family, Brendan (Ashley) of Neepawa, MB and Brett of Regina; Wayne (Melodie) and their family, Shaleen (Tom) of Regina, Tia (Dan) of Neepawa, MB, Caitlin (Micheal) and Luke; daughter, Shawna (Allan) Miller and her family, Trista and Dustin; brother-in-law, Archie and Jenny Howard of Weyburn; brother-in-law, Gerald and Paulette Howard of Alberta and many nephews and nieces. Also, brother John (Bernice) of Yorkton and sister-in-law, Sylvia Monka of BC. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Westview United Church in Yorkton with Rev. Jen Dresser officiating. The organist, Laurene Jemieff led members of the parish choir in the singing of the hymns, "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace". A special musical selection, "Go Rest High on That Mountain" was played as the recessional. A eulogy was shared by granddaughter Shaleen Monka. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Brendan Monka, Brett Monka, Tommy Erwin, Micheal Nagy, Luke Monka and Dan Lange serving as the casket bearers.
