Minnie Mehling of Yorkton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 15 after a weekend of visiting with her beloved family members and surrounded by those who loved her. She was 88 years of age. Minnie Maria Mehling was born February 5, 1926 to George and Amalia Mehling at Stornoway, SK. She was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church at Stornoway and received her education at Stornoway School. She discontinued her schooling when her mother died suddenly at an early age and she was needed at home to help sister Magdalene with running the household on the family farm and to help raise and care for their younger siblings. In the fall of 1948, she, along with her two sisters, father and a brother moved to a new home in Yorkton. After working at several different places of employment, she ended up spending most of her working career at Auto Electric Limited of Yorkton. Minnie enjoyed her places of employment and the people at these places became her friends. After her retirement, she found so much joy in getting together with her siblings and their spouses and her many nieces and nephews. She did some travelling with them to vacation spots and one of her fondest pastimes was doing crossword puzzles; she usually had several of them nearby. Minnie was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton for the greater part of 65 years and she enjoyed the friendship of many of the members there. Minnie's health began to fail her several years ago prior to her passing. She was predeceased by her mother in 1941, her father in 1961, her brother Edmund in 1991, her brother Bill in 1995, her brother Arnold in 2004, her sister-in-law Freda Mehling in 2004, her sister Magdalene in 2007, her sister-in-law Emma Mehling in 2008 and her niece Marilyn Grenier in 2008. Left to cherish fond memories of Minnie are her brother Richard Mehling and his wife Doreen of Regina, her sister Lorene and her husband John Nicholson of Regina, sister-in-law Emily Mehling of Yorkton as well as numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton with Rev. Daniel Moeller officiating. The organist, Verna Liebrecht led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "I Am Jesus Little Lamb", "When Peace, Like a River" and "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say". The interment took place in the Garden of St. Mark at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Bob Nicholson, Randy Mehling, Tyler Lupanko, Matthew Lupanko, Barry Mehling and Orest Mehling serving as the casket bearers. Memorial tributes in Minnie's memory may be made to Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Condolences may be sent to the family at .
