Adrian McLachlan of Bredenbury, beloved husband of Louise, passed away suddenly at the Yorkton Health Center, Louise at his side, in the early hours of January 11, 2014. He was 81 years of age. Born John Adrian on March 20, 1932 in Bredenbury, he was the son of the late Earl & Alice (nee Thompson) McLachlan. He was the middle child and had 2 brothers, Edwin & Keith. His family lived on a farm north of Yorkton in the Reaman School District, before moving to a farm in the Clumber district. Adrian attended school at Clumber. He farmed and was the caretaker of the Bredenbury Rink before starting a career at Thorsness Hardware. He worked mainly at their Churchbridge store for over 30 years. He married the love of his life, Louise (Stevenson) on July 19, 1963. They spent 50 happy years together and this past summer they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a beautiful celebration. They raised a daughter, Lana Louise and Adrian was always very close to his only child and later, her husband, Lee Sumner and son, Mario Sumner of Seattle, WA. Adrian loved his community, displayed civic virtue by volunteering countless hours and participating in many activities in Bredenbury. He played hockey in his younger years and later was the announcer at the Bredenbury Cougar hockey games. He was an active member of the Bredenbury Curling Club, then joined the Saltcoats Seniors Curling Club. He was an avid golfer and served on the board of the Bredenbury Golf Course. He was a girls' softball coach for Bredenbury Minor Sports. Adrian was first a member of the Elk's Club, then a long-standing chartered member of the Lion's Club. He was a volunteer fireman. He served on the session board of the United Church and sang in the United Church Choir. He sang in a Welsh choir at Bangor. He was on the Bredenbury Light Up committee for many years, and last year, helped to organize the parade for Bredenbury's centennial celebrations. Adrian enjoyed his many friends, both in Bredenbury, and in the surrounding communities. He was very close to his extended family too. Adrian and Louise travelled many places across Canada and around the globe, with friends and family, or to visit them. They bought a cabin at Burgis Beach in the 1970's, and enjoyed many happy times there. Later in life, he and Louise spent some winter months in Seattle each year, with Lana and her family. Adrian had many hobbies & interests: fishing, woodworking, making willow chairs, playing guitar, feeding birds and bird watching, playing cards, visiting. He was a friendly, easy-going man who loved to laugh. His thoughtfulness, kind, unselfish and generous nature benefited the lives of others, often in a profound way. His family is comforted by the many happy memories they have of him. He will be dearly missed. Adrian was predeceased by his parents Earl & Alice and older brother Edwin. He is survived by his loving wife, Louise, daughter Lana, son-in-law, Lee, and grandson Mario. He is also survived by his extended family members, whom he loved so dearly: brother Keith (Nancy), sister-in-law Merle (Edwin), niece Susan (Darrell) Getz, great nieces Angela & Allison, sister & brother-in-law, Bev & Barry Bradshaw, nephews Dean (Janice), Rick (Maureen) and great nieces Sarah, Megan, Emily, Erica & Claire, sister-in-law Vivian Creaser, nephews Doug (Deb), Blair (Stephanie), Rob (Debbie) & great-nieces & nephews Bryar, Nicole, William & Michaela, brother & sister-in-law, Fran & Wendy Stevenson, and niece and nephews Lynn (Evan), Wayne (Janaya), Bill (Jo) and great nephews Owen, Miles, Millar and Macintyre. A Service to Celebrate Adrian's life was held on Wednesday, January 15 at 11:00 a.m. in the Knox United Church in Bredenbury, officiated by Thom Carnahan. Fred Nicholson, a dear family friend, read the Scriptures. The Eulogy was given by daughter, Lana, and a family tribute by grandson, Mario. The choir, of which he was a member, each laid a rose at his urn and provided beautiful music under the leadership of Darlene Burman, with Lorne Neal accompanying on organ. Mario was the urn bearer. Cremation Committal followed at the Bredenbury Cemetery. Memorials in Adrian's name may be made to the Bredenbury Knox United Church.
