Dennis Gordon Malischewski (May 28, 1954 - January 11, 2014). Dennis Gordon Malischewski was born at the Wadena Hospital on May 28, 1954. He was the youngest child of Ernest and Clara (Schultz) Malischewski. Dennis took his schooling at Kuroki and Wadena Composite School. While growing up Dennis was the youngest of six siblings: Vern, Shirley, Mervin, Violet, Bernie, and Walter and they all helped on the farm north of Kuroki. In school Dennis enjoyed curling and even made it to provincials one year. Dennis completed his grade 11 and much to Clara's dismay did not complete his grade 12. In 1974 Dennis married the love of his life, Cheryl Sauer. On October 26, 1976, they were blessed with their first child, Shonna Lee, followed by Sean Regan on August 31, 1980. Dennis enjoyed taking Shonna and Sean to the farm on the weekends. Dennis and Shonna would watch the Flintstones together during lunch. Dennis and Sean would often snowmobile with Bernie. Dennis and Sean enjoyed spending time talking about computers, technology, vehicles and planes. Dennis was very proud of his children and always wanted to talk about them and share with others what they were doing. In 1970 Dennis went to work in Thompson, MB, but was too young to work in the mines and ended up working in construction. This was his first time away from home and it was short-lived. Once back home, he worked some construction jobs before being hired by Lloyd Craig at Margo working for The Saskatchewan Wheat Pool buying grain; this was Dennis's true calling in life. For the next 32 years Dennis continued working for The Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in Lintlaw, Invermay, Clair, and Yorkton until the age of 50, when he retired. After retirement Dennis learned he could not sit still and worked at Western Grocers and Grain Millers in Yorkton. Dennis helped his father with farming, until his father passed away in 1987 and then he continued farming with Vern and Bernie until deciding to rent out the land. Dennis enjoyed spending time at the farm. One of Dennis's passions was flying planes; his favorite plane was a Cessna 172. Dennis had great taste in vehicles, especially classic cars. He was a talented photographer who enjoyed taking pictures of landscapes, wildlife, cars, planes, family and the countryside. Dennis was good with electronics and would often do house calls for many people, helping to hook up televisions and computers. He was also one to help out his neighbors, if it wasn't mowing lawns, it would be something else. In 2008 Dennis and Cheryl moved back home and settled in Kelvington to be closer to their families. While living in Kelvington, Dennis achieved one of his goals of having a dog. Tiny became a beloved member of the family and Dennis's sidekick. Dennis brought Tiny everywhere and quite often shared many a meal with Tiny. Needless to say, Tiny was spoiled and loved unconditionally by Dennis, and Tiny loved Dennis just the same. Dennis and Tiny enjoyed getting to know their neighbors, and took a liking to the five kids that live next door, bringing the kids freezies and popsicles. Dennis has numerous friends throughout the province and he truly cherished all his friendships. Dennis met his untimely death on January 11, 2014, outside Kelvington while doing what he loved, snowmobiling and being in the great outdoors. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Clara; mother and father-in-law, June and Robert Sauer; brothers, Vern and Walter; brother-in-law Ed Kluz; nephew Leslie Malischewski; great-niece Emma McMartin; and by numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife Cheryl; daughter Shonna (Ian); son Sean (Shelby); grandchildren, Landon and Shannah; siblings, Mervin (Rita), Shirley, Violet (Duane), Bernie (Sharon), and numerous nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Dale, Marvin (Esther), Darren (Tracey) Sauer; sisters-in-law Lynn Malischewski and Deanna Malischewski and their families. A memorial service was held on Monday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kuroki Community Hall with Terry Tompkins officiating and presenting the eulogy. Memorial book attendants were Cinnamon Walchuk and Christine Tarasoff. The Kelvington Trailblazers acted as honour guard and all of Dennis's friends, near and far, were honourary pallbearers. Interment will take place at a later date with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Kelvington and District Health Care Facility Foundation.
