Joan Vivian Malainey passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning, January 15, 2017 in Regina General Hospital surrounded by her family. Joan was born to Alex and Alma Fromm in the Runnymede district on May 25, 1944. She attended Mylor school in the Runnymede - Togo district. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church as a small child. When she was done school she went to The Pas in a care home for a few years. In the fall of 1963, she met a man at her parents neighbours. They dated 3 years and in October 17, 1966 they were married. The following spring her husband was very badly hurt in a car accident which caused a lot of turmoil. In February of 1971 they were blessed with their only child Garth Perry. A couple years later they parted. Joan and Garth then lived for a few years with Joan's parents on the farm. Garth went to school from there on the school bus. This is where Joan learned to drive the car and got her license. In a short time later, Joan started dating James Malainey. They were married on November 22, 1980. James accepted Garth into their life and they had a very good relationship. On December 23, 1981 their first daughter was born, Crystal Gayle. Then on April 28, 1983 their second daughter, Carrie Lynn, arrived. That completed their family. Joan was a stay-at-home mom and ran a daycare out of her home. As the girls got older, she did Meals on Wheels, Woodland Hotel, then her favourite Eaglestone Lodge for 10 years before her retirement in May of 2009, when she turned 65, to enjoy life and especially her 2 little granddaughters at that time. Her favourite pastimes were watching TV and embroidery. She loved to dance, party and loved to be a stay-at-home mom. Upon retirement she used to come and stay at Crystal's to cook, bake and babysit the grandchildren. When Joan's children were younger, in the summer, she used to love to watch her son Garth at demolition derbys and spent many a winter with her two girls at figure skating. Joan was predeceased by her father, Alex Fromm, in June 1985 and her mother, Alma Fromm, in June 2007. She is survived by her husband James of 36 years, Garth (Tracy), Taylor & Carson, daughter, Crystal (Andrew Probe), Paloma, Piper & Charity, daughter, Carrie (Randall Balynsky), Chase & Paige and by her aunts Linda Hunt & Florence Pfeifer, her many relatives and close friends. We love you forever Joan. May you rest in peace.
