Mrs. Mary Lischynski of Yorkton, formerly of Canora and the Gorlitz district, widow of Metro, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 92 years of age. Mary was born on March 5, 1922 on the family farm in the district east of Gorlitz, SK. A daughter to Wasyl and Alexandra (nee Mihaychuk) Panchuk. Mary grew up in the district and attended Bridok School. She helped on the farm and as well helped care for her grandmother and raise her siblings. Mary was united in marriage to Metro Lischynski on October 19, 1944 and they farmed on the Lischynski homestead. Their son Ron was born on August 21, 1945. In 1972 Mary and Metro retired and moved into Canora where they remained very active. They continued to help the family on the farm. Mary was very involved with St. Andrew's United Church, being a part of the choir, the Ladies Auxiliary and doing maintenance around the church as well. She was also involved with the Hospital Auxiliary and the Horticultural Society. Mary loved flowers and gardening. She even kept a small greenhouse in the yard when the kids were selling flowers. Her favourite part of this was visiting with the many people that would come to look at flowers. Mary loved to bake and cook as well. She had perfected the art of baking chiffon cakes and made perogies and home-made noodles that she and Metro would sell at farmer's markets. Another big part of Mary's life was her granddaughters and eventually her great-grandsons, watching their many activities and participation in sports. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Metro in 2013; two sisters, Kay Procyshen and Ann Young; two brothers John and Fred Panchuk. Mary is survived by her son & daughter-in-law Ron & Darlene of Yorkton; grandchildren; Charlene (Lane) Wallace of Saskatoon and Janice (Carl) Ostman of Langley and two wonderful great-grandchildren, Harrison & Mackenzie Wallace; two sisters, Beth Johnson of Parksville, BC and Lea Beatson of Calgary, AB; as well as many loving nieces, nephews relatives and friends. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, B.Th Certified Celebrant officiating. Great-grandsons, Harrison and Mackenzie served as the Candle Lighters. A Family Tribute was shared by granddaughter, Janice Ostman. The organist, Amanda Buhler led in the musical selections, 'What A Friend We Have In Jesus', 'In The Garden' and 'When The Role Is Called Up Yonder'. The interment followed in the family plot in the Garden of Crucifixion at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Lane Wallace, Carl Ostman, Allan Friskie, Daniel K. Lischynski, Elmer Lischynski and Peter Wiwchar serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Mary can be made to the New Regional Hospital Building Fund.
