Wilma Ruth Liebrecht

Wilma Ruth Liebrecht (Bartelt) was welcomed home to the arms of the Creator in the first hour of February 24, 2015, after a final battle with cancer. Born on July 18, 1943 to Minnie (Titze) and Karl Bartelt, Wilma was one of four children. Wilma's passion was her work. She attended Yorkton Composite High school, entered nursing training in the Yorkton Union Hospital and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1964. Wilma trained to become a Registered Psychiatric Nurse at the Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford, SK. On April 2, 1966,  she married Lloyd Liebrecht. Wilma went on to earn Diploma in Teaching and Supervision in April  1967  and began working as a  Nursing Instructor at the Yorkton Union Hospital. Lloyd and Wilma moved to her parents' farm in 1972  and they welcomed their first child, David, into their family in 1975. That same year Wilma completed the requirements for her Bachelor of Arts with a double major of psychology and sociology. She worked as a Nursing Instructor V for the Wascana Institute in Regina, SK, sharing her love of the profession with second year psychiatric nursing students. In 1978, they welcomed their second child, Gloria, with open arms. In 1980, Wilma was employed at Yorkton District Nursing Home where she remained a dedicated employee until her death. The number of lives she touched as a nurse, a mentor, an educator, and as a friend are immeasurable; her gifts  for care and service, priceless. Wilma was predeceased by her mother and father; her brothers, Arnold and Allan; her sister, Margaret; her brother-in-law Leonard Liebrecht, his wife, Eileen and his son, Jody. Left to celebrate her life are her husband, Lloyd and their two children, daughter, Gloria Soja and son, David Liebrecht; brother-in-law, Sanderson George and his four children, Carol, Bruce, Alan and Derrick; sister-in-law, Sharon Potter and her  children and grandchildren; niece, Stella Liebrecht and nephew, Danny Liebrecht; many friends and co- workers; and of course her other great loves - her dogs Sabrina and Alli. Her steadfast love will remain in our hearts forever. A Service to Celebrate Wilma's Life was held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with her daughter, Gloria Soja officiating. The organist, Carla Laycock, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Abide With Me" and "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling". Arden Saxon shared the scripture reading and also shared the words of the "Nurse's Prayer".  A special taped music selection, "Only Time" by Enya was played as part of the service.  Wilma's son, David Liebrecht, shared words of reflection and remembrances of his mother's life. In accordance with Wilma's wishes, a private family cremation committal will take place at a later date. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
