Laurie Jean Leniuk fought the brave battle of cancer. She succumbed in her sleep on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the age of 53 years. Laurie was predeceased by her mother, Hilda (nee Schnurr), father, Alvin Kobitz, two brothers, Barry Kobitz and Doug Kobitz; grandfather Fred Kobitz and grandmother Dorothy Kobitz as well as Grandma and Grandpa Schnurr. She is survived by her husband Peter of Lethbridge (married March 12, 1977), son Chad (Stephany) of Lethbridge; daughter Crystal (Kevin) Lee of Lethbridge; two grandchildren, Sierra and Dominik; one brother, Robert (Patricia) Kobitz of Saskatoon; one sister, Marilyn (Charles) Simpson of Regina; uncle and aunt Ernie & Elva Kostersky, sister-in-law Gail Kobitz. She is also survived by her special
friends Wayne and Judy Martin. Laurie spent 25 years in Early Childhood Education, including 12 years with children affected by Down's Syndrome, and the last 8 years as a Speech Pathologist. She especially loved spending time with family, friends and her loving little puppy Abby. She loved to travel and enjoyed her most recent trip to Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Her quiet courage, strength of spirit, creativity and sense of humor will be carried forward by those who knew and loved her. The funeral home was held at Cornerstone Funeral Home, in Lethbridge, AB, on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 1:00pm, with Deacon Frank Peta officiating. Interment followed in Mountain View Cemetery, then a reception was held at the funeral home.
