Sophia Koroll

Sophia Koroll was born on December 7, 1928 in the Theodore District, daughter of Metro and Mary Lastiwka. Sophia was the fifth child of nine surviving children. She took her elementary education at Czernowitz and Crossroads and her grade nine and ten through correspondence and completed grades eleven and twelve at the Theodore High School. On August 8, 1949 she married John Serby (who passed in July 1954). Sophia then moved to Theodore where she worked and met Nick Koroll. Together for forty-eight years Nick and Sophia worked on their farm and raised four children: Clayton, Gloria, Annette and Larry. In 1995 Nick and Sophia retired to Yorkton where they resided till Nick's passing in 2005. Sophia stayed in the family home till 2010 when she moved to the Bentley. Requiring more personal care Sophia moved to the Gladstone Senior's residence where she resided till her passing on January 11 at the Yorkton Union Hospital. She was 86 years of age. Sophia was a very social person who enjoyed visiting, joking, teasing and laughing with everyone she met. She enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards and reading. As well she enjoyed shopping, gardening, cooking and baking. Sophia also enjoyed "trying her luck" at the Casino and loved fishing and travelling to visit her daughters and sister. Sophia had a passion for garage sales - often re-gifting her great finds to her children. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and looked forward to the time she spent with them. Sophia was an active member of the Legion, the Ukrainian Ladies aid in Westbrook and Yorkton and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Theodore, Westbrook and Yorkton. She also sang in the choirs at Theodore and Westbrook. Sophia was predeceased by her parents, Metro and Mary; husbands, John and Nick; sisters, Katie Lutz, Helen Benfield, Rose Wenzel; and by brothers Jim, Bill, and Alex Lastiwka.
