Orest Julian Korol, beloved husband of Irene Korol of Yorkton, passed away suddenly at the Regina General Hospital on April 21, 2013 at the age of 73 years. Orest was born on September 28, 1939, at the Canora Hospital to Mike and Julia (Pakosh) Korol. As a young man, he attended the Donwell District School and Canora Composite High school. For many years he was employed at several Credit Unions and then began managing the Yorkton Mohawk Stop-n-Shop until he retired. His retirement was brief as he returned to work at the Yorkton WalMart, where he thoroughly enjoyed his employment. His favorite hobbies included: fishing, yard work, and cheering on sports teams including the Roughriders, Yorkton Terriers and the Chicago Blackhawks. Orest mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, but especially his grandchildren. He was a gentle person and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Orest was predeceased by his parents Mike and Julia; his sister Olga Gulak and his brother Buck Korol. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Irene of Yorkton; his son Kevin Korol (Karen Kobussen) of Saskatoon and Karmen (Mike) Kruger of Calgary, AB; his four grandchildren: Stephanie and Cole Korol and twin boys Jordan and Kody Kruger; his three brothers: Eugene (Vicky) Korol, Ben (Marlene) Korol both of Canora and Morris (Louise) Korol of Gatineau, QB; his two sisters: Kathy (Moe) Davyduke of Saskatoon and Alice (Harold) Popoff of Canora as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation was held on Thursday, April 25, 2013, from the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, April 26, 2013, from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Canora with Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna officiating. The interment followed in the Sliding Hills Christian Cemetery, Mazeppa. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan or to the Sunrise Health Region as tokens of remembrance in memory of Orest.
