Nick Kondro, beloved husband of the late Nellie Kondro (nee Gelmich), passed away peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home in Yorkton, SK. He was 92 years of age. Nick was born on December 15, 1920 on the family farm in the Jedburgh district of Saskatchewan, the eighth child born to John and Pelagia "Pashka" Kondro. Nick attended Forest Nook School until he took over the family farm. On July 20, 1947 he married Nellie Gelmich, and they were blessed with five children. Nick and Nellie farmed in the Jedburgh District until 1966, when they sold the farm and moved into Yorkton. While farming, Nick was also busy driving school bus and fuel truck. In 1966, he started working at Yorkton Distributors. After about a year, he purchased and operated his own business, West End Shell. Four years later he sold this business and went back to work at Yorkton Distributors until his retirement in 1985. Nick was predeceased by his parents; his seven siblings, Metro, Bill, Fred, Steve, Mary, Pearl and Annie as well as their spouses and recently his son-in-law, Douglas Holstein. Nick leaves to mourn his passing his children, Deanne (Robert) Tulloch of Edmonton, AB, Delores Holstein of Yorkton, SK, Donna (Brian) Pysyk of Athabasca, AB, Neil (Marlene) Kondro of Redwater, AB and Debbie Kondro (Francis O'Connor) of Kelowna, BC. He also leaves to mourn his passing nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. The Prayer Service was held on Thursday, May 23, 2013 and the Funeral Service was held on Friday, May 24, 2013, both services from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Yorkton, SK with The Very Reverend Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The cantor was Gerald Yaholnitsky and the Cross Bearer was Debbie Kondro. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery, Yorkton, SK with Precious Borden, lan Wilway, Brian Pysyk, Dustin Pysyk, Don Walters, and Teri Holstein serving as the casket bearers.
