Adeline (Fullawka) Kirkham

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Adeline (Fullawka) Kirkham on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the age of 88 years. Adeline was born on December 29, 1928 in Tiny, SK, the ninth of Paul and Agnes Fullawka's 11 children. After finishing school she left the farm to train and work as a telephone operator. Her next move took her to Saltcoats where she met the love of her life, Bertrand Kirkham. After marrying in 1949, Bert and Adeline enjoyed 53 productive and loving years together before his death in 2002. They shared a successful farming career that spanned over four decades. Along with the help of two of their sons, they expanded Woodlands Farm into a thriving agri-business that included grain production, a feedlot operation and one of the province's largest turkey enterprises. Never one to shy away from hard work, when not engaged in farm labour, Adeline spent countless hours in her garden, sewing, baking, canning and cooking for her ever growing family. Yet she would still find time to give back to her community. Adeline was a tireless volunteer for the Grahame Guild, Ladies Agricultural Society and especially her church, St. Augustine's Anglican Church. Her pace did not slow down once she and Bert retired in 1988. She rose to the challenge of designing a new yard, finding more volunteer opportunities and becoming a novice curler in her sixties so she could spend more time with Bert. Adeline always had a coffee and cookie for anyone who came through her door. She never ran out of hugs and was quick to share a good laugh. She was a highly respected friend, an adored mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a cherished wife. But above all, Adeline was a woman of great faith even when it was tested by the loss of her husband, son and granddaughter. Her life in Christ gave her much peace and as she approached her encroaching age and failing health, she was firm in the knowledge that God had prepared a wonderful place for her after her time on this earth was done. She served as a role model and mentor for many people both inside and outside her church walls. Adeline was predeceased by her husband, Bert; son, Perry and granddaughter, Chantelle. She leaves to mourn her sons, Howard (Val), Jeffrey (Julie), Scott (Shelley); daughters, Brenda (Bryon), Sheila (Jim), Della (Stephen); 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucy Elchuk, Dolores (Ignace) Palchewich; sisters-in-law, Sophie Fullawka and Francis Thompson, numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends, including life-long friend, Val Trowell. They will all treasure her memory, honour her legacy and attempt to live up to her example as they struggle to find their way without her. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Deacon Luanne Hrywkiw officiating.  The readers were Jessica Kirkham, Michelle Kirkham and Jenna Yorke.  Words of tribute and eulogy were shared by Brenda Godin. The organist, Judy Berg, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Come to the Saviour", "Precious Lord, Take My Hand", "Blessed Assurance" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus". The Interment Service followed in the Saltcoats Town Cemetery, Saltcoats, SK with Nathan Kirkham, Bradley Kirkham, Cole Kirkham, Luke Wilcox, John Wilcox and Jack Bjarnason serving as the casket bearers. Friends so wishing may make donations in Adeline's honour to St. Augustine's Anglican Church, Box 330, Saltcoats, SK, S0A 3R0. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting . Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
