Irene June Kerr

It is with heavy hearts, her children and grandchildren announce the passing of Irene June Kerr (nee Johnson) on February 12, 2016. Irene was born on June 6, 1923 in the Bertdale District and was the youngest of three girls. Her education was completed at the Bertdale School and upon graduation, left home for Winnipeg to take a hairdressing course. Once completed, Irene set up a hair shop in Saltcoats where she met the love of her life, Bob. The couple were united in marriage on August 20, 1947. Irene and Bob raised their four children in Saltcoats and were actively involved in sports and community. At this time, she took a job with Canada Post, where she worked until her retirement. After the children left home, Bob and Irene could be found toiling in their huge garden or on weekends at local auctions, bidding on furniture to refinish or adding to her vast salt and pepper shaker collection. She was a wonderful baker and cook and with a little coaxing would always enjoy a Caesar! Irene loved bingo, watching the Blue Jays and was an avid curling fan. She could often be found in her chair, knitting and watching sports. Irene was predeceased by her parents, Beggie and Nia; her sisters, Rosa and Joa; her husband, Bob on June 3, 2010 and her loving son, Wayne on January 15, 1969. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Jim (Joanne) of Saskatoon, SK; daughter, Joan (Larry) Boehm of Regina, SK and son, Ian (Judi) of Esterhazy, SK; grandchildren, Rhonda (Fred) Osipoff of Regina, SK, Craig (Chantelle) Boehm of Regina, SK, Derek Kerr of Esterhazy, SK and Kristin (Justin) Matthiessen of Leduc, AB as well as many other extended family members and friends. A Memorial Service was held on Friday, March 11, 2016 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK, with Reverend Susan Salo officiating. The organist, Ruth Datema, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "How Great Thou Art", "In The Bulb There is a Flower" and "Amazing Grace". Following a luncheon in the Gunn Reception Room at Christie's Funeral Home, the Cremation Committal took place in the Saltcoats Town Cemetery, Saltcoats, SK with Irene's grandson, Derek Kerr serving as the urn bearer. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
