Iona Violet (nee Herzke) Jardine. Iona passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Surrey Memorial Hospital in Surrey, BC. For years Iona had battled fiercely against MS and Mantle Cell Lymphoma. But sadly she lost her battle to a severe infection (sepsis) and kidney failure. She was born December 7, 1943 at the Yorkton Hospital in Yorkton, SK, to Hugo and Violet (Ruetch) Herzke and she was raised on the family farm in the Orkney area, just west of Yorkton. After attending public school at the Orkney Stone School, she graduated from the Composite High School in Yorkton and then attended Central Pentecostal College in Saskatoon. Upon her return to Yorkton, she was the organist at the Pentecostal Church. She was employed at Brown's Dental Labs until she moved to White Rock, BC in 1967. Iona held several jobs in Vancouver until she met and married David Earl Jardine where they established Associated Graphic Systems (AGS) a graphic arts, phototypesetting and print shop in Delta, BC. Iona's last position was as phototypesetter at Vancouver General Hospital in the printing department, and continued to work there until her retirement in 2006, She is predeceased by her husband David 2002, her father Hugo Herzke 1990 and brother Harvey Herzke 2013. Iona is survived by her mother Violet Hertzke of the Yorkton Nursing Home, her brother Allan (Geraldine) Herzke, Delta, BC, and sister Gail Sakal of Swan River, MB. Nephews: Brian (Michael Berthiaume) Herzke, Vancouver, BC, Brad (Claire) Herzke, Langley, BC, Jason (Renee) Sakal, Swan River, MB, Kevin Sakal, Swan River, MB. Nieces: Linda (Bob) Chancey, Ladner, BC and Marilyn (Rick) Morrois, Ladner, BC. Great nieces: Breanna and Anika Sakal, Swan River, MB, Tessa and Ella Herzke, Langley, BC. Great nephews Brandon Chancey, Vancouver, BC, Blake Chancey, Ladner, BC, Tyler Herzke, Langley, BC and Seth Sakal, Swan River, MB. Iona had many loving friends and a special close friendship from Judy Campbell of Surrey, BC and her family, to whom she was known as their special grandma. Iona was surrounded by family and loved ones in her final days, and we will miss her dearly. No service by request.
