Emily Joyce Houghton (nee Legge) was born on November 11, 1927, on a farm near Wroxton, SK. She was the daughter of John and Florence Legge. When Emily was young, the family relocated to a farm at Chatsworth, where she attended school. After completing her education, she worked as a nanny for many local families. In 1957 she met the man of her dreams, Geoff Houghton, and the couple were united in marriage that same year. Their marriage was blessed with five children, four boys and a daughter. Emily and Geoff farmed in the Chatsworth area until they retired in 1990 and moved to Yorkton. Due to failing health, they moved to Oxbow in 2009 to live with their daughter. Emily spent many enjoyable hours in her garden and preserving food for her family. Many cold winter evenings were spend quilting and sewing. Saturday nights came alive with the Saturday Night Get Together on the radio. Gramma's pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Emily was predeceased by her husband, Geoffrey Houghton; one son, John William Houghton, in infancy; her parents, John and Florence Legge; her sister, Florence Nodge and her brother, Ken Legge. She leaves to mourn her passing her sons, George (Kathy) Houghton of Saskatoon, SK, Bill Houghton of Weyburn, SK and John (Rhonda) Houghton of Rhein, SK; her daughter, Doreen Demchuk of Oxbow, SK; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, three nephews and one niece as well as many other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK. In accordance with Emily's wishes a private family cremation committal will be held in May of 2015.
