With great sadness, the family of Marion Holowka announce his passing on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, Yorkton, SK. He was 86 years of age. Marion was born on January 20, 1928, in his parents' home located in the Jarislaw District, five miles north of Otthon, SK. He was the son of John and Catherine (nee Prosko) Holowka. Marion attended the Otthon School. He worked as a cattle buyer in the Otthon Stockyard for a short time and then began his life as a farmer on the land he loved. On August 6, 1951, he married his best friend, Lorraine Molnar at the Holy Trinity Church in Otthon, SK. They had two daughters, Susan and Karen. They settled on the family farm, where he resided until his passing. Marion enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and the great outdoors. Many a memory was made as he passed on his expertise, love and knowledge of the outdoors to his children, and later his grandchildren. His best love, however, was always farming. His retirement actually turned out to mean farming again, just on a smaller scale. This included his beloved tomatoes and lush potato patch. He was a "Jack of all trades", and you often found him in his shop repairing or inventing. He was always willing to lend a hand and pitch in to help his neighbours and friends. Marion's retirement also meant getting to spend precious time with his grandchildren, whether it was watching his grandsons play hockey or attending the Grandparent's Tea at the three year old nursery school with his granddaughter, Jami. Marion was predeceased by his parents, John and Catherine Holowka; his parents-in-law, James and Agnes Molnar; his brothers-in-law, Elmer Molnar, Arnold Molnar and Bill Bowen; his son-in-law, Kelly Ryczak. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, Lorraine, his wife of 62 years; his daughters, Susan (Dave) Puritch and Karen Ryczak; his grandchildren, Jeff (Lisa), Jami and Ryan Puritch; sisters-in-law, Myrna Molnar, Esther Bowen and Beatrice Molnar; his brother-in-law, Gerald (Myrna) Molnar as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Marion will be deeply missed by all those who had the blessing of knowing him. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton, SK with Father Francis Hengen officiating. The Cross Bearer was Jami Puritch and the readers were Shannon Sullivan and Wendy Del Bigio. The pianist, Diana Hornung and members of the music ministry, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Be Not Afraid", "Psalm 33", "Peace is Flowing Like a River", "Song of the Angels" and "Amazing Grace". The Interment Service followed in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Garden of Gethsemane with Jeff Puritch, Ryan Puritch, Brent Molnar, Gerald Molnar, Craig Molnar and Garth Bucsis serving as the casket bearers.
