HNATIUK - Walley

Walley Hnatiuk

Mr. Walley Hnatiuk of Yorkton passed away on November 14, 2016 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, one day short of his 76th birthday. William (Wally) Hnatiuk was born on November 15, 1940 at Calder, SK. Walley grew up on the farm North of Calder, SK with his parents Bill and Margaret, older brother and sister (George and Katie) and younger sister (Luba). With an easy smile and a twinkle in his eye, Wally was always ready to go for a coffee and a visit and if pie happened to make an appearance then so much the better. Walley's friendly nature and soft touch with the ladies made him a popular fellow and he never missed a chance to dance and socialize. Even in his last days, although slowed by illness, Wally said he would "sure like to go out dancing". Walley spent his younger years working in different parts of Saskatchewan but eventually came back to Yorkton because that is where the best perogies are made. His sister Luba and her husband (Larry Kowalyk) were a big part of his life here in Yorkton, as was his dear friend Doreen Schlechter. Niece Corrie Billedeau and her husband Neil will miss his regular calls to see what the weather was like in Winnipeg. Nephew Todd Burnell and his wife Jennifer will miss being able to ask him how to say different words in Ukrainian. But they will always have his recipe for borscht, which was beets and "anything that is ready in the garden" and "put the cream in at the end and bring it just to the boil - not over". Goodbye Walley, it was very nice to have known you. A private family interment will take place in the family plot at Yorkton Memorial Gardens.
