It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Lucy Hladun, widow of the late, Peter S. Hladun. Lucy passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the age of 91 years. Lucy was born on June 18, 1924, on a farm north of Canora in the Meadow Dale District, the daughter of Annie (nee Mazur) and Steve Kohut. When she was young, the family moved north of Mikado where Lucy was raised and attended Pretty Valley School. On November 20, 1942, Lucy was united in marriage to Peter S. Hladun. The couple made their home on Peter's family farm, eight miles northeast of Mikado, where they farmed and raised their two daughters. In 1964, they moved two miles east of Canora, built a new home and continued farming for 25 years. In 1992, Lucy and Peter retired to Yorkton. Lucy was a homemaker, she worked on the farm along side her husband, enjoying gardening, sewing, visiting with neighbours, playing cards and spending countless precious hours with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a person of kindness, generosity, sincerity, determination, patience and above all, devout faithfulness. Lucy was predeceased by her husband, Peter on March 13, 1996; her father, Steve Kohut on February 10, 1968; her mother, Annie Kohut on March 4, 1973; her brother, Tony on September 25, 1967; her brother, Paul Kohut on January 11, 1983; her sister, Mary Genik on February 25, 1996; brother, Bill on December 24, 1998; son-in-law, Robert Boyda on June 8, 1990 and a grandson-in-law, Jim Jackson on July 24, 1999. Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life are her daughters, Iris Boyda and Lyn Pinder; her grandchildren, Stacey (Jeff) Norris and their children, Emma and Lily Norris of Delta, BC, Kelly (Corinne) Boyda and their children, Sienna and Matthew Boyda of Surrey, BC, Rae (nee Pinder) (Brian) Perih and their children, Dalton and Brooklyn Jackson of Yorkton, SK, Jody (nee Pinder) (Jaired) Lacusta and their children, Kaden and Macy Lacusta of Calgary, AB, Mark (Jackie Madarash) Pinder of Yorkton, SK as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to express our gratitude and sincere appreciation to friends, family and church members in the community as well as the Staff of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, Orkney House, for their compassionate and dignified care. The Staff did a wonderful job looking after Lucy, they consoled, loved and laughed with us, as we said good-bye to a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, neighbour and friend whom we will always remember.
