It is with profound sadness that the family of Frederick Barry Hedley, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, announce his passing with family by his side, at the Orkney House, Yorkton and District Nursing Home on Friday, April 27, 2012. Barry as he was known to everyone, was born on January 17, 1931 at Carman, MB and spent his early years growing up in Swan Lake, MB, completing school there and playing hockey, which was a passion of his. Many did not know this, but Barry was scouted by the Chicago Black Hawks of the NHL. He never did play in the big leagues due to a health issue which arose during his physical. He was employed by Manitoba Hydro, Searle Grain and was later asked by his Uncle, Rudy Schick, to come and work for him at Northern Motors as Sales Manager in Yorkton, which he did for most of his working years. Barry married Betty Boyd on November 14, 1952 and they had 59 years of happiness together, living at York Lake and in Yorkton. Barry was a very kind individual who loved hockey, golf and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease at age of 52 when he semi-retired to play some golf, enjoy travelling and spending the winters in California when Mona and Bill, and other family members would come and spend some time with them, and to live life as best he could. Predeceased by his parents, Fred and Gladys Hedley and twin sons, Russell and John in 1969; Barry is survived by his loving wife Betty and his faithful little four legged friend, Pepper. His sons; Grant and Val, and their daughters, Lindsey; Tara and Robin, and their children, David and Anna; Pat and Gayle and their daughters, Jennifer; Shayla and Dion and their daughter Madilyn; Calvin and Faith and their children Erin, Nicole and Jonathon; his daughter Kim and Steve Procyshen and their son Matthew. He is also survived by his sister Mona and Bill Watkins; sister-in-law, Grace Madill; and brothers-in-law, Jack Boyd & Harvey and Dorothy Boyd; numerous nieces and nephews. Words cannot express the families' deep gratitude to the professional Care Givers at Orkney House, for their kind and excellent care Barry received during his stay with them. At Barry's wish, his cremation has taken place, and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. At this time, Reverend Kim Salo, of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to the Yorkton District and Nursing Home - Orkney House, Yorkton, SK or the Parkinson's Society of Canada - 4211 Yonge Street, Suite 316, Toronto, Ontario, M2P 2A9. Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following the path God laid for me,
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play,
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy,
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Oh yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with time of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow,
My life's been full, I savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief,
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now,
He set me free
