It is with deep sorrow that the family of Bert Hasper announce his passing on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, Yorkton, SK. He was 72 years of age. Bert was born on January 15, 1945, the son of Harry and Isabella (nee Duff) Hasper. He grew up on the farm near Theodore and went to school in Theodore and Springside. He was united in marriage to Cherylle Bjornson on November 11, 1966 and the couple celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2016. Throughout the years, Bert worked at a variety of jobs to support his family. He worked on road construction in Swift Current, SK and ran the grader for the Department of Highways on the Mackenzie Highway when the family lived in High Level, AB. When they moved to Pine Point, North West Territories, he found employment at the mine, before moving back to Theodore, to run the service station for six years, farm and do custom work for farmers in the district. Bert always enjoyed working on the farm and while living in Yorkton for the last 20 years, his greatest pleasure was to go out to work for the Ford family, swathing, harrowing, repairing or just visiting. With such a wealth of knowledge in a variety of areas, Bert was able to help others with many of their repairs and he always shared that knowledge with anyone in need. He was a good friend and teacher to many. Bert loved tinkering and fixing things - even if Cherylle was going to throw something out, he wanted to at least take it apart to see how it worked. Often he was able to fix it, although many times it cost more to fix than to just buy a new item! Bert loved to dance, listen to music and often played along to the song on the spoons. As his health declined, Bert found a spot at the table where he could watch whatever others were doing - he was proud that his family had learned from how to fix things, make sausage and share that sausage with others, especially his friend, Daniel. Bert was an avid hunter and was very thankful to go hunting with his grandson and son-in-law this past fall. Bert will be remembered by so many as "Papa B" - he touched so many lives and considered so many to be his sons, his boys or his girls. He will always be remembered for the love he shared with his family, his positive, outgoing nature and his love of life. Bert was predeceased by his parents and his brothers-in-law, Garnet Beaupre and John Bjornson. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving and beloved wife, Cherylle; their children, daughter, Maureen (Patrick) Lukan and their children, Kenneth (Shelly and his daughter, Savannah) and Elin (Sean); daughter, Jacalyn (Sheldon) Moldowan and their children, Joseph (Chrissy and children, Tia, Addalyn and Hannah) and Janella (Dustin and son, Brantley); daughter, Cherilyn (Terry) Slenders and their children, Mathew (Briana), Mark and Maurissa and son, Glenn (Scott) and his children, Curtis, Caitlyn and Griffin; sister, Ada (Dave) Werner; sister-in-law, Helen Beaupre; brothers-in-law, Ingemar (Carolyn), Bill, and Gordon (Ellen); sister-in-law, Jill; his aunts, Uldine Harkema and Olga Duff as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and those he considered to be relatives, Carrie, Candace, Brian (Tiny) and Stephen. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Shelly Morris officiating. Special taped music selections included "Only Love" by Zamfir, "Amazing Grace" by Elvis Presley and "Go Rest High on That Mountain" by Vince Gill. The urn bearer was Glenn Hasper and the honourary pall bearers were all those who shared in Bert's life. A private family cremation committal will take place at a later date. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting . Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
