Violet Lydia Hanson (nee Strand) went to her eternal home to be with her Lord on January 23, 2014 at the age of 92 years. Violet was born in Pope County, Terrace, MN on April 22, 1921, the daughter of Carl and Betsine (nee Rust) Strand. Raised a Lutheran, she was baptized on June 9, 1921 in Terrace, MN. The Strand family immigrated to Canada in 1922. Violet grew up and attended school near Ketchen, SK. Violet worked with her sister Adeline in the mine at Flin Flon, MB. during the Second World War. After the war she was united in marriage to Carlton Leonard Hanson on June 20, 1946 in Ketchen, SK. They lived together in several places before permanently residing in Yorkton in the early 1960's. They were blessed with four children; Herschel, Sharon, Colleen and Bradley. Violet was a gifted homemaker and caregiver. She started cooking at Chicken Delight and fine-tuned her skills at the CFB Whitespruce radar base where she received her 1st Class Cook papers. After retirement, she was a foster parent and ran a private care home. In her spare time she loved to bowl and play bingo with her sister. In 2008, Violet moved to the Yorkton and District Nursing Home where she resided until her passing. Violet was a part of the community and faith at the Church of the Nazarene in Yorkton, SK. She faithfully attended church there when her health and time would allow. Violet was predeceased by her husband, Carlton Hanson; parents, Carl and Betsine Strand; her sisters, Adeline (Bill) Nast, Corinne (Wilfred) Olson, Ilene Strand, Ione (Harold) Bagnall; her brothers, Milo Strand (Annie Pipher), and Curtis Strand. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory; her son Herschel (Julie) Hanson and Carol Hanson, their children Derek (Candise) Hanson, Byron Hanson (Daniel Gaisford), Christie (Dustin) Jones; her daughter Sharon (Glen) Dreger, their children Wade (Naomi) Dreger, Heath (Jasmine) Dreger, Jaret (Cathy) Dreger, Loni (Colin) Parks, Tanis Dreger, Ashley Dreger; her daughter Colleen (Darryl) Patzer, their children Clinton Patzer, Carrie (Richard) Kyle, Travis (Sherri) Patzer, Katherine (Dallas) Lundell, Wyatt (Brydan) Patzer; her son Bradley Hanson (Pam Moldowan); her great grandchildren Ember, Rory, Oliver, Hudson, Rowen, Tristyn, Jessica, Avery, Aidan, Danica, Riley, Olivia, Emma, Alexa, Clara; her sister Margery (Gordon) Richards; her sister in law Eva Strand; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK. with Pastor Richard Gibson officiating. The organist, Elaine Patzer, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Blessed Assurance", "In The Garden", "Amazing Grace" and "Victory in Jesus". A quartet of Violet's grandchildren, Carrie Kyle, Byron Hanson, Katherine & Dallas Lundull sang, "It Is Well With My Soul". The Interment Service followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with grandsons, Wade Dreger, Heath Dreger, Jaret Dreger, Clinton Patzer, Travis Patzer, Wyatt Patzer and Byron Hanson serving as the casket bearers.
