It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Calvin Robert Hande. He passed away suddenly in Calgary, AB while waiting for his truck to be reloaded to once again get on the highway. In 1998, Cal met Sandy Cojocar and together they built their home in Otthon, Saskatchewan along with their dog, "Chewy", who was Cal's buddy. Cal was known for his sense of humor and ability to laugh and socialize with anyone he met. He had many humourous lines that he used when teasing friends and family. The more popular ones were: "and your problem is!!", "you know what I mean?" and the best one, "well, what do you know!" Cal was well known for his many talents and abilities such as carpentry, drywalling, tow truck driving, plumbing, mechanics and roofing (and many were done). He enjoyed doing renovation projects with his Dad. In his down time, Cal enjoyed fishing, biking (motorcycles) and on-line poker. Cal's newest hobbies included rock collecting and making earrings - he had given many pairs to family and friends. Cal was a very generous and unassuming person - always willing to help a friend in need. Cal's true enjoyment however was his trucking. It truly made him happy. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Cal is survived by his partner, Sandy Cojocar; his parents, Allan and Arla (nee Patterson) Hande; his daughters, Amanda (Adrian) and Shelby; his sons, Malcolm, Preston and Mark; his stepson, Kevin; his sisters, Carla (Rob) Rathgeber and Marlene (Duane) Rathgeber; his brother, Mel (Kyle); three wonderful grandchildren, Savannah, Breen and Kelsey as well as numerous nephews, one niece, four great-nieces and one great-nephew. A Prayer Service and Visitation for Family and Friends was held on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Pastor Ray Maher officiating. Special taped music selections included "Seven Spanish Angels" as sung by Willie Nelson and "On Angel's Wings" as sung by Josh Groban. The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 from Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton, SK with Pastor Ray Maher and Vicar Paul Preus officiating. The organist, Verna Liebrecht, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace", "I am But a Stranger Here", "The Lord is my Shepherd" and "Saviour, Like a Shepherd Lead Us". A poetic tribute was shared by family friend, Glenda Wasylkowski. The Interment Service followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Rick Wasylkowski, Errol Quewezance, Duane Krall, Jimmy Young, Don Cameron and Harold Dutchak serving as the casket bearers. The Honourary Pallbearers were Walter and Sylvia Bugoy, Alvin Kay and Doreen Severight, Paul Borys, Sandy DeGroot and Lance and Carla Rogne. Friends so wishing may make donations in Cal's name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation as tokens of remembrance. Condolences may be forwarded to Cal's family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
