Stephen Gulutzan

Stephen Gulutzan, of Yorkton and formerly of the Buchanan District, passed away peacefully at the Aspen Bluffs Villa in Yorkton on Monday, March 30, 2015, at the age of 90 years. Stephen was born in Buchanan, SK, on July 1, 1924, one of sixteen children born to Mandary and Mary (Kushneriuk) Gulutzan. Throughout his life, Stephen gained employment in a variety of occupations. He worked as a camp cook in bush and mining camps. Enjoying cooking, he often made Christmas cakes at the camps and was usually the one responsible for decorating for Christmas and holidays as well. Stephen even had the opportunity to travel to the Bahamas as a cook's helper. He appreciated and was proud to be able to see many parts of the country through position at work. One of his favourite experiences was sailing along the coast of British Columbia. Stephen also enjoyed reading and listening to the daily news either on the radio or the television. Listening to country music was one of his favourite hobbies, but he most enjoyed the Saturday Night Dance Party on CJGX radio. In his later years, with the help of his Ipod, he seized the opportunity to learn the French language and to try to pronounce words in French. Although Stephen loved to keep himself occupied, his most preferred past-time was spending time with his many nieces and nephews and their families. He anticipated their visits and cherished the time they shared with him. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Mandary and Mary Gulutzan and by his siblings: Helen, Alex, John, Dora, Katie, Tillie, Annie, Mike, Nick, Edward, Charlie, Paul, Joe, Walter and Sophie. Left behind to cherish his memory and celebrate his life are his nieces and nephews as well as their families and his God-children. Funeral Services were held on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 1:30 pm from the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home, Canora with Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna officiating. Interment followed in the Dormition of the Holy Mother of God Cemetery, Mamornitz, southwest of Buchanan, SK. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Mamornitz Church or Cemetery Fund, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Stephen Gulutzan. Family and friends unable to attend may sign an on-line guest book for Steve at www.lesonsfuneralhome.ca. Arrangements were entrusted to LESON'S FUNERAL HOME, Canora.
